Liver Regenerative Effect of Phyllanthus amarus Linn. Against Alcohol Induced Liver Cell Injury in Partially Hepatectomised Albino Rats

P. Chattopadhyay, S.S. Agrawal and A. Garg

ABSTRACT

The present study investigates the liver regenerative effect of Phyllathus amarus Linn against alcohol induced liver cell injury in partial hepatectomised albino rats. The oral administration of Phyllanthus amarus extracts increases the activities of thymidine kinase in regenerating rat liver at 24 h. Levels of DNA and protein analysis showed that the increase in thymidine kinase was caused by comparable increase the DNA and protein. Histopathology confirmed the mitosis counts increases to the activity of DNA. These findings suggested that Phyllanthus amarus inducing DNA synthesis by the induction of levels of synthesizing nucleic acid enzymes during liver regeneration. Phyllanthus amarus may be used, as a potential liver regenerative herb in hepatic disorders and seems to be beneficial against alcohol induced liver cell damage.

Can phyllanthus amarus cure hepatits b?

Editor
16 March, 2023

There is some scientific evidence to suggest that Phyllanthus amarus (also known as "bhumi amla" or "stonebreaker") may have some beneficial effects for people with hepatitis B, but it is not a cure for the virus.

Some studies have shown that Phyllanthus amarus may help reduce liver damage and inflammation associated with hepatitis B infection, as well as improve liver function. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings and determine the optimal dosages and treatment regimens.

It's important to note that hepatitis B is a serious viral infection that can lead to liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer if left untreated. While some herbal remedies may have some potential benefits, they should never be used as a substitute for medical treatment or advice from a healthcare professional. If you have hepatitis B, it's important to work closely with your healthcare provider to manage your condition and receive appropriate medical care.
