Three-Dimensional Calculations of Axial Neutron Flux Distribution in a Material Test Research Reactor

Abstract:
The axial neutron flux distributions at a number of locations in Pakistan Research Reactor-1 (PARR-1), a typical swimming pool type material test research reactor, have been both calculated theoretically and measured experimentally. Calculations of the neutron flux were performed through modeling the reactor core and its surroundings in three-dimensions by using the transport theory code WIMS-D/4 and the three dimensional diffusion theory code CITATION. The method of multiple foil activation was used to measure the flux distribution experimentally. Comparisons between the calculated and measured fluxes show a very good agreement in the general shape but a small shift between the calculated and measured distributions.
