ABSTRACT
The billions of dollars of Commercial banks losses to check frauds make automatic verification of signature of checks a major requirement in the new Interbank Check Imaging (ICI) environment. In this paper, we shed some light on the problem of check fraud and introduce the application of an ASV method to the security of the financial transactions in electronic banks. The problem of transferring ASV research into an applicable system that can be integrated into electronic banks environment, with its implications, is dealt with in this paper and a practical system that can be used with actual bank data is introduced. The system emanated from the material of this paper has already been in use in pilot projects in the USA and Singapore.
