I certainly hope so. My husband is 35 years old and suffers this crippling condition. His spine has been severely affected. When is a procedure to be developed? Because we would be interested in participating in a study for stem cell transplantation in AS. What would be the risks involved in such procedures?

Thnaks for your comments. I`d be very grateful to you if you send me some historical information as your husband experienced.

Did you begin the process of stem cell transplant? I have been through Enbrel, Humira and can't seem to tolerate all the side effects. What about the eye issues that sometimes come with AS? I only have one eye I can see from (I lost my eye as a child from an accident). Sometimes, I awake to such blurred vision I can't function. I have had MRI's of the orbit, scans and so many different meds and I still am not getting better. Does this therapy work and where is it available? I am definitely interested.

Dear Drs. Sarder Nasir Uddin and Md. Eunus Ali,

Where can I follow your research? Does Yamaguchi take patients for stem cell testing?
I have had AS for two years, was diagnosed in Sept. 2009. If you have something to offer me, I'd be willing to send you my information. I often travel to Korea and wouldn't mind stopping in in Japan.
Sincerely,

Thank you for posting information about food allergies. My mom and I were wondering if you could email us more information about it as my brother tested positive in HLA-B27 and having pain that related to AS, but no definitive diagnosis yet. He has had an allergy to milk since he was very little, and my mom and I notice that since we've been more careful about the foods he eats, we have noticed and improvement with his pain. Could you refer us to a doctor or naturopath that we could contact for more information about this? Thank you we we would truly appreciate this.

I am a 48 year old female with Ankylosing Spondylitis. I recently got this diagnosis. I went from a very active life to not being able to drive rapidly. I just started Embrel and not really noticing any difference other than i am more tired. I have a prosthetic left eye and I am very concerned as I have hours where I cant see except colors and outlines of what is around me. Do I have to go blind? Is this where this is headed? Can I get good help? Contact me with any info you believe will help me. Thank you, LM

I am 44, also have Ankylosing Spondylitis and have had severe stages where it got so bad I was bed ridden for months. I too was prescribed Enbrel and took it for a couple years and my disease still progressed. It wasn't until the doctors switched me to Humira and methotrexate that they were finally able to get it under control and my quality of life drastically improved. I too was researching stem cell therapy when I found your post and hope you check back for this reply as I think a change in meds might give you immediate relief.
Good luck on your journey

I've just seen you comments. My husband's got AS around 20 years, now he is 50 year old. He's already taken Embrel for 10 years (2 times a week as starting, but right now just 2 times a month). He says he has to do a stretch (about 1 hour very morning) until he feel all his joint bones free sothat he'll feel relax all daylong. He can't have any alcohol. he decrease fat and high calcium & iron food such as milk, carrot, broccoli, tomato etc. Sometime my husband gets problem with his eye,it's always effect from the decayed tooth or gum abscess. with best wish.

My brother is currently 16, he has been diagnosed with anklosing spondylities since about 2 years, he cannot turn his head properly, and has arithritic like symptoms on his fingers and legs and used to complain about, hip pain, he was started on infliximab therapy , but this was later discontinued, for some reason. i read with hope that such stem cell therapy can help restore his problems, he is indian ethinicity, lives in singapore and was diagnosed based on X-ray showing sacrolic joint fusion, identifying the B27 gene, C-reactive protein as well as ESR to show evidence of inflammation. Is this useful information that can help you do you have an alternative form to contact u

I would be very interested in this treatment. I am 49 and have had this since I was at least 24. I also believe my trigger was a series of immunizations I received when I joined the Air Force. I wonder if you have any opinion on this previous comment. Anyway, I am at a very bad state right now. I now have constant pain in my feet and ankles, can't sleep, and I don't know how much longer I can stand the pain My doctor says there are 2 types of AS; the kind with fusing and deformity, and the kind that is mostly pain. Unfortunately I am fully in the pain category as I have very little fusing and appear normal, but the pain is so bad I am now on a morphine type pill, Humira, plus tons of other meds. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

To all of you...my husband David is doing MUCH better....his AS is hardly causing problems now, and he is on no medication except Aleve for inflammation. YOU MUST ALL HAVE FOOD ALLERGY TESTING!!! My husband was tested by his naturopath and turns out he had extensive food allergies, especially dairy and casien. If you can find out what you are allergic to, you may be able to greatly reduce your symptoms. My husband's recovery has been so miraculous! I wish the same for all of you! I really think this disease has a lot to do with an allergic reaction triggered by some injury and progressing to serious food allergies... He now takes IGg (a nutritional supplement) to help his intestinal barrier heal from the allergy damage. His posture is still ruined from the AS being so severe previously, but he is no longer rock-stiff in his spine and he did nothing except natural healing and avoiding allergen foods. Also make sure your home is mold-free, because i think that may also be a bigtime allergen. Once we fixed our moldy storage room, and he stopped eating milk and anything with casien, he improved DRASTICALLY! Hope you all have better health soon. Please let me know if you improve because I am curious if this is the answer for anyone else....good luck!
LisaMarie
Aly and AS survivors:
I have studied nutrition for the past 20 years and have always done food allergy testing. Yes, inflammation from food allergies are linked to many immune diseases. Say you had a food allergy test and you eliminated all the foods you had an allergic response to for a year. If you were to go back and test again you would find that you were now allergic to other foods. All I am trying to say is that if you rotate all the foods you eat bi-weekly you would not have allergic response thus causing lower inflammation in your body meaning less pain. I had a DNA test to go even further but haven't found a doctor that is capable of reading and treating my DNA issues. Everyone keep searching! Also, know that an AS diagnosis is a catch-all disease and many times is totally wrong. Drs. must give a diagnosis to the insurance companies in order to get paid. AS is way over diagnosed in todays societies.

It would be great news for many new AS patients but alas probably to late for me. I have had AS since I was seventeen,I am now 57 and would have loved to try this treatment especially since my spine and neck are totally fused now. I have tried a number of different treatments over the years without any success,so I wish the best of luck to the researchers who are developing this treatment.

I've been using the drug Remicade since I was diagnosed with AS about 3 years ago, and I would highly recommend it to those whose comments appear here. It's expensive and has to be taken every 6 to 8 weeks. But it works, and it can be taken as an infusion (no shots). Like everyone else though, I'd be very much interested in learning more about a possible permanent solution using stem cell treatment. Is it possible we could use this site to keep each other informed? Thanks, and good luck to everyone.

Hi,
I've been treated with daily 200mg of hidorxicloroquine and weekly 100mg of leflunomide for almost 10 years.
I started with this disease 20 years ago, at the beginning I spent more than a year with a lot of pain and uveitis in both eyes, now I preatty much well, almost no pain and sporadic uveitis episodes.
Nevertheless I'm researching for stem cells to drop the drugs I've been using or at least reduce the dosis, if you have some contact near Mexico I will really appreciate if you can share the info

I've had AS since 2006 and have had 2 hips and now looking at both shoulders to be replaced. If stem cell therapy is potentially a cure to AS, why does the American Insurance companies/Medicare refuse to acknowleged its potential. Especially now with the opiod epidemic spreading across America, you would think Medicare and other insurance companies would seriously look at the costs of multiple surgeries and medications and approve proven therapies. If anyone knows of any studies currently underway that address's stem cell therapys in treatment for AS,RA and other crippling diseases, please pass the information my way in Atlanta

I am 35 year old female with Ankylosing Spondylitis. I was diagnosed at age 27, but symptoms started at age 18. I spend most of my days on a heating pad trying to manage my pain with Percocet and embrel as well as anti-inflammatories. I appear normal on the outside but on the inside I am constantly battling horrible pain. Some days I’m not sure how to get through it all. I would love to be able to improve my condition with stem cell therapy. If there is any way I can get into a program or research I would be eternally grateful!!! I’m in Kingsport TN.

There are a lot of very sad and deviating story's on this feed regarding ankylosing spondylitis. I do hope the best for you all. It breaks my heart how much suffering you are all going through. I have a son that was diagnosed at 18 and he is 24 now. I have watched him suffer for years. His active life has been taken from him, as he is bedridden the majority of days. He is a strong-willed man and has tried everything his rheumatologist has suggested, including four different biologicals. He can no longer use the biologicals due to reactivated viruses and his health declining. He went through spinal surgery on a disc with hopes of maybe some relief and nothing. It would be a miracle if he could have stem cell replacement. Please doctor's help my son!

I was unofficially diagnosed with AS by my gp but he sent me to the specialist to get it confirmed and I've been sent home twice now with nothing but "you don't fit the criteria" and "don't let the pain stop you live your life".
I believe it's because I don't have severe back pain that they are dismissing me. Now I do have the back pain but it's not as bad as the pains in my joints and arms and legs and hands.
The point of this is I was just wondering if anyone has had similar pains. Like it feels like my arms, legs and hands are broken and need to be put back into place and my whole body just constantly throbs in pain. I also am very tired and I try to exercise but I can't even walk around the shops for an hour without having the pains get worse and feeling extremely tired. The pain in my back is in the lower back and it's when I'm standing for ages that it hurts and in bed and I constantly have to move to get comfortable.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing because I have no one else to ask questions to and I'm just sick of being told no by doctors. I am looking at the cord stem cell therapy at regeneration center but cost is a factor since my insurance does not cover. Just so frustrated cause my GP didn't even do scans to rule it out they just said because the pain was throughout my whole body and not just my back it wasn't AS.

LisaMarie
Aly and AS survivors: I have studied nutrition for the past 20 years and have always done food allergy testing.

My husband is suffering from AS. Please let me know if there is any advancement in the stem cell therapy that can help him. Incase there is then also let me know the hospitals where this is practised (in India).
Sabrina Gonzalez
To Aly Townsend: My mom and I asked for more information information about food allergies and what doctor or naturopath you could refer us to, but I think I forgot to post our email. If you could please send us any information you have about this, it would be appreciated. Also more information about the IGg supplement would be appreciated.

Regards

Hi, my husdband have AS and now he's 58 yrs. Now it's getting worse day by day. He recently went to see an orthopedic who recommended him to undergo stem cell therapy.
I've seen many questions about the stem cell therapy 2009 but i've no seen there's any review on this stem cell therapy.
