  There is no agreement about normal level of vitamin D and its deficiency stages. For finding normative value of Vitamin D and evaluating the state of vitamin D level in Iranian population we revised the data that was collected in Iranian national Multi-center Osteoporosis Study (IMOS). We chose 5 cities with different climates; individuals were selected by random cluster sampling. Healthy people aged 20-69 were entered into the study and serum vitamin D and PTH levels were measured. We stratified subjects based on their vitamin D levels in 7 groups and compared mean PTH levels of adjacent groups. We evaluated 5329 blood samples for vitamin D and PTH and found three steps of PTH elevation with decreasing vitamin D levels for women (40, 25 and 12 nmol L-1) and two (35 and 25 nmol L-1) for men. We use these values as cutoff levels for definition of normal, mild, moderate and severe vitamin D deficiency states. Based on these cutoffs, prevalence of all stages of vitamin D deficiency was unexpectedly high in all cities. Vitamin D deficiency state was seen in 75.1% of women and 72.1% of men. The high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Iran is similar to the results of other studies in Middle East area and indicates a need for a careful search for a determination of cause and need for regular fortification program.

  Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is strongly associated with cardiovascular risk and requires intervention to improve glycemic control and other cardiovascular risk factors. In this study, hydro alcoholic extract of Nettle (Urtica dioica) on some cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetic patients were studied. A randomized single-blind clinical trial of 50 men and women with type 2 diabetes aged 52.39±13.75 years was conducted. Patients were adjusted by age, sex and duration of diabetes, then randomly divided into an intervention and control groups, they received, 100 mg kg-1 day-1 nettle extract or placebo in 3 portions for 8 weeks. Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1C), Fasting Insulin concentration, Total Cholesterol (TC), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Triglycerides (TG), systolic blood pressure(SBP), Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were measured, TC/HDL-cholesterol, LDL/ HDL cholesterol ratio , Log (TG/HDL-c) and Insulin Resistance were calculated, at the beginning and end of the study. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 18, p<0.05 was considered significant in all measurement. After 8 weeks, FBS ,HbA1C , TG , Log (TG /HDL-c) and SBP showed a significant decrease and HDL-cholesterol showed a significant increase in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The findings of this study suggest that the hydro alcoholic extract of nettle has a beneficial effect on FBS, HbA1C, TG, HDL-c concentration, Log (TG /HDL-c) and SBP in patients with type 2 diabetes after eight weeks intervention.

In this study, hydro alcoholic extract of Nettle (Urtica dioica) on insulin sensitivity and some inflammatory indicators in type 2 diabetic patients were studied. A randomized double-blind clinical trial on 50 men and women with type 2 diabetes was done for 8 weeks. Patients were adjusted by age, sex and duration of diabetes, then randomly divided into two groups, an intervention and control group. They received, 100 mg kg-1 nettle extract or placebo in three portions a day for 8 weeks. Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α) , High Sensitive C-Reactive protein (hs-CRP) and Fasting Insulin concentration were measured. Insulin Sensitivity was calculated, at the beginning and the end of the study. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 18, p<0.05 was considered significant for all variables. After 8 weeks, IL-6 and hs-CRP showed a significant decrease in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The findings showed that the hydro alcoholic extract of nettle has decreasing effects on IL-6 and hs-CRP in patients with type 2 diabetes after eight weeks intervention.

  Diabetes type 2 is a metabolic disorder that characterized by hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Hyperglycemia and impairment of oxidant/antioxidant balance, can increase oxidative stress and increase risk of cardiovascular disease. In the present study, Effects of hydro alcoholic extract of Nettle on oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes were evaluated. Fifty patients (27 men, 23 women) with type 2 diabetes patients were studied. They received 100 mg kg-1 of nettle extract of body weight hydro alcoholic for 8 weeks. At the baseline and end of 8th weeks of intervention blood levels of oxidative stress markers were measured. Data was analyzed by SPSS version 18, p<0.05 was considered significant for all variables. After 8 weeks, Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) and Superoxidant Dismutase (SOD) showed a significant increase in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The findings showed that the hydro alcoholic extract of nettle has increasing effects on TAC and SOD in patients with type 2 diabetes without no changes in Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Glutathione Peroxides (GPX) after eight weeks intervention.

  The objective of this study was to compare two strategies for resynchronization of ovulation based on ovsynch 48 and 56 h in non-pregnant dairy cow diagnoses using trans rectal ultrasonography Lactating Holstein cows (n = 150) were submitted for postpartum Timed Artificial Insemination (TAI) using a Ovsynch 48 and 56 h protocol. After diagnosed non-pregnant, cows were randomly assigned to initiate resynchronization. Non-pregnant cows as determined by ultrasonography on day 30 post-AI and were divided into 3 groups. Cows in 1st group receiving an injection of PGF2α in 30 days and detected in estrus were inseminated and 2nd group receiving an injection of PGF2α 7 days after the initial GnRH injection and a 2nd GnRH injection 48 h after the PGF2α injection and 3rd group receiving an injection of PGF2α 7 days after the initial GnRH injection and a 2nd GnRH injection 56 h after the PGF2α injection and cows in both treatments were inseminated approximately 16-20 h after the 2nd GnRH injection. Therefore, pregnancy rates were evaluated for 3 groups that 1st group (n = 50) 18 pregnant and 32 non-pregnant, pregnancy rate in this group 36% and cows in the group 2 (n = 50) 11 pregnant and 39 non-pregnant, pregnancy rate in this group 22% and cows in the group 3 (n = 50) 16 pregnant and 34 non-pregnant, pregnancy rate is 32% and pregnancy rate between group 1 and 2 was significant p = 0.0044 (p<0.05), pregnancy rate between group 2 and 3 was significant too p = 0.0446 (p<0.05) and pregnancy rate between group 1 and 3 was not significant p = 0.5202 (p>0.05).
