  The genus Salvia (Lamiaceae) contains more than 50 shrub species in Iran, and Salvia limbata C.A. Meyer grows widely in the north and central parts of the country. Six flavones and rosmarinic acid were isolated from the ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of the flowered aerial parts of S. limbata collected from Semnan province. The separation process was carried out using several chromatographic methods. Structural elucidation was based on NMR data, in comparison with those reported in the literature. The isolated compounds were identified as ladanein (1), salvigenin (2), luteolin 7-methyl ether (3), cirsiliol (4), eupatorin (5), luteolin 7-O-glucoside (6) and rosmarinic acid (7). Some of these flavonoids have been reported to show antibacterial and cytotoxic activities.

  Essential oils from the aerial parts of Teucrium persicum Boiss. (Labiatae), collected in 3 stages (pre-flowering, flowering and post-flowering) from plants grown in the Fars province of Iran were obtained by steam distillation. The chemical composition of the oils were analyzed by GC-MS. Analysis of the chemical profile of the isolated oils revealed the presence of >80 compounds, mainly sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. They contained α-terpinyl acetate, α-cadinene, 1,4-cadinadiene, linalool and cadinol. Average yield was 1%. The studied essential oils showed good antioxidant activities as calculated by 3 in vitro assays: DPPH radical scavenging, Ferric Reducing Power Assay (FRAP) and Reducing Power (RP).

  The aerial parts of Lythrum salicaria L. from Lahijan in Gillan province have been collected in June 2009. Total extract were obtained by MeOH/H2O (80/20) and then partitioned between CHCl3, EtOAc and MeOH. These fractions and total extract have been investigated for in vitro cytotoxic activity against colon carcinoma (HT-29), lukemia (K562), breast ductal carcinoma (T47D) and Swiss mouse embryo fibroblast (NIH 3T3) cell lines by MTT assay (3-(4,5-di methyl thiazol-2-yl)-2,5-di phenyltetrazolium bromide). At each cell line doses of 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 μg mL-1 in 1% (v/v) DMSO of all samples were tested. Ethyl acetate fraction against proliferation of T47D cell line has been represented high cytotoxic activity (IC50<70). Chloroform fraction and total extract against proliferation of T47D cell line and chloroform fraction toward K562 cell line and total extract against HT-29 cell line have been demonstrated slightly cytotoxic activity (IC50<200). The other fractions have been demonstrated no effective cytotoxic activity. IC50 values confirmed that the growth and proliferation of T47D cells were most affected by ethyl acetate fraction.
