  Age structure and some growth parameters of Bufo viridis from the Giresun Island and Giresun province in Turkey were studied by skeletochronology. We studied 56 specimens (41 female, 15 male) from island and 44 (5 female, 39 male) from mainland population. In both populations, age at sexual maturity was 2-3 years in both males and females. Age was ranged from 2-8 years for females and 3-6 years for males in island while 4-7 and 3-8 years in mainland population, respectively. Males and females did not differ in the mean age while SVL and weight were significantly different between males and females in two populations. In addition, we found positive correlations between age and SVL in both sexes in two populations.

  In this study, skeletal muscle protein bands of the Bombina bombina specimens from five populations inhabiting in Turkish Thrace and Northwestern Anatolia were compared by SDS-PAGE (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate-Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis). Totally 54 adult (26 females and 28 males) B. bombina specimens were used in SDS-PAGE characterization. B. b. bombina specimens in the Thrace group (Degirmenyeni, Buyukdoluk and Durusu populations) had 26 homologous protein bands whereas B. b. arifiyensis specimens in the Northwestern Anatolia group (Arifiye and Karasu) had 28 bands. It was shown that specimens of B. b. arifiyensis had two additional and unique bands. The results of the present study show that Thrace and Northwestern Anatolia specimens of the B. bombina populations in Turkey are different according to total number of skeletal muscle protein bands.

  In this study, in order to investigate biochemical differences among skeletal muscle protein bands of the Hyla orientalis specimens from three populations and H. savignyi specimens from six populations in Turkey were compared by SDS-PAGE (Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate-Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis). Totally, 26 adult (14 females and 12 males) H. orientalis specimens and 54 adult (25 females and 29 males) H. savignyi specimens were used in SDS-PAGE characterization. The first group (Bursa, Edirne and Trabzon populations of H. orientalis) had 34 homologous protein bands whereas the second group (Adana, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kilis, Siirt and Elazig populations of H. savignyi) had 32 bands. It was shown that the first group had two additional and unique bands. The results of the present study show that specimens of the H. orientalis and H. savignyi populations in Turkey are biochemically different according to total number of skeletal muscle protein bands.

  Skeletal muscle was investigated by SDS-PAGE protein electrophoresis for western versus eastern Turkish populations of the newt Ommatotriton ophryticus. The number of protein bands resolved was 25 in the west and 26 in the east. The modal number of trunk vertebrae was also compared among 10 populations of the eastern group (Artvin, Trabzon, Giresun, and Ordu) and 3 populations of the western group (Zonguldak, Bartin, and Karabuk). The eastern group had 13 vertebrae except S,inik (Trabzon) specimens, which had 14 vertebrae, whereas the western group had 12 vertebrae. These data supported the recognition of 2 taxa that would correspond to O. o. nesterovi in the west O. o. ophryticus in the east.
