ABSTRACT
Concerted breeding efforts on rice improvement at NIAB has resulted in the development of a salt tolerant, high yielding variety derived from IR-6 through irradiation. Preliminary evaluation for salt tolerance was done at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Three years multilocational yield trials were conducted in saline soils. Based on higher yield potentials, fine grain and salt tolerance, the NIAB-6 was approved under the name Niab-Irri-9` in 1999 by the Punjab Seed Council for general cultivation in the province.
