Percentage germination, radicle length and plumule length of the seedlings of the three varieties were noted. The effluent was observed to inhibit the germination of all seed types used. The percentage germination decreased significantly with increase in the effluent concentration. Length of radicle and plumule of the seedlings decreased with increase in effluent concentration. Pennisetum americanum was found to be least tolerant to the effluent while Zea mays was the most tolerant.
