ABSTRACT
Studies were conducted on physiology of four fungi namely Botrytis cinerea, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. gladioli and Stemphylium botryosum isolated from Gladiolus corms and leaves. Universal medium was found to be the best for mycelial growth of all fungi. Temperature at 25oC was found better for all the fungi except Curvularia lunata which grew best at 30oC. A pH of 6 favoured the growth of B. cinerea and S. botryosum while other two fungi preferred pH 7. Similarly B. cinerea and S. botryosum gave good mycelial growth under 24 hours continuous light while mycelial growth of other two fungi was observed under 12 hours alternate cycle of light and darkness. All the fungi were found sensitive to all fungicides at 50 ppm but Bavistin followed by Dithane M-45 and Topsin-M were found effective even at 20 ppm.
