Anti-stress Activity of Mitragyna africanus (Willd), Stembark Extract

ABSTRACT
|
The acute toxicity and the effect of Mitragyna africanus
stembark extract of methanol (CH3OH) on stress were investigated
in rats, using its effect on pentyleneterazole induced convulsions and
its muscle relaxant effect. The extract did not produce any death in
the treated rats even at the highest dose (6400mg kg-1) used.
It did not protect rats treated with convulsive doses of pentylenetetrazol
(100mg kg-1) but increased the period of onset of convulsions
and decreased the number of spasms. It also showed significant (p<0.05)
muscle relaxant effect
