In vitro Studies of Antimicrobial Activity of Synthetic Ovaliflavone

ABSTRACT

In the present study 8-γ,γ-dimethyallyl-5, 7-dimethoxyflavone [ovaliflavone, 6] has been synthesized from phloroacetophenone via chalcone precursor and by its treatment with DMSO/I2 or diphenyl sulphide. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of ovaliflavone and its corresponding chalcone were found in vitro by the filter paper disc diffusion method and poisoned food technique, respectively. Compound 6 showed good antibacterial and antifungal activities to the some selected bacterial and fungal strain.
