ABSTRACT
This study was conducted between September 2000 and September 2001 to determine and compare blood parameter levels of Alburnoides bipunctatus F., Chalcalburnus mossulensis and Cyprinion macrostomus. Variations in haematological characters of the fish were compared according to species, gender and seasonal differences. Effects of water quality on blood parameters were also determined. The results indicated that blood parameter levels of all species in warm months were significantly different than those measured in cold seasons. The number of total leucocyte, neutrophil and monocyte levels were found to be higher in female fish, especially in reproduction season, than in male fish. Levels of erythrocyte, hemoglobin and hematocrit were high in male fish in an annual period. Result showed there was no gender effects on erythrocyte indexes (MCV, MCH, MCHC) eosinophil and thrombocyte levels. In addition, mean values of blood parameters were found to be similar in Chalcalburnus mossulensis and Cyprinion macrostomus, but there was an increase in Alburnoides bipunctatus F.
