  The fecundity and gonado somatic index (GSI) of Plotosus canius during its peak breeding seasons were studied. Fecundity of P. canius during its peak breeding season April to August of size range 36.5 to 69.2 cm varied from minimum 1180 in April and maximum 2250 in July. Fecundity showed a linear relationship to total length, body weight and ovary weight. The linear relationship between weight and fecundity was more valid than that of length and fecundity. The results of correlation regression equation of total length-fecundity, body weight-fecundity and gonad weight-fecundity were (r=0.832619), (r=0.933599) and (r=0.96118). On average 2.3718 ova are produced in pre gram-weight of body. Study on gonado somatic index indicated that mature fish become available from April to August, the peak being July.

  A total of 50 mature female specimens were examined for fecundity and gonadosomatic index study. The fecundity of the fish ranged from 19343.33 to 301700 with an average value of 126812.6. The relationship between fecundity and gonad weight was most significant (r= 0.9729) than that of fecundity with other factors. The relationship between fecundity and total length, body weight and gonad weight is linear and the regression equation are i) Log10F= 0.0024+4.0761 Log10TL, ii) Log10F= 3.3177+1.0778 Log10TW and iii) Log10F= 3.7550+1.5161 Log10GW. The fish was found to spawn for several months with two spawning peaks. One in December and other in February as indicated by the peaks of gonadosomatic index.

  A comparative study on monoculture of Puntius gonionotus and mixed culture of Puntius gonionotus and Cyprinus carpio was conducted in 6 ditches of 400 m2 for five months. There were two treatments and each ditch was stocked with a 15000 nos. ha‾1 of fish. A significantly higher (p<0.05) total production (2002.45 kg ha‾1/5 months) was obtained in the mixed culture system (T2) than that of the production (1556.86 kg ha‾1/5 months) of monoculture system (T1). The net benefit of monoculture and mixed culture system was Tk. 49,943.00 and Tk. 56,514.00 respectively.

  An experiment was conducted to find out the effect of excess methionine and methionine-betaine supplementation on deposition of arsenic in different tissues, organs and eggs of hen and contribution of hen egg and meat to human health hazard along with the arsenic contaminated drinking water. One hundred twenty Rhode Island Red, 16 week-old, were allocated into four groups having three replicates with nine hens and one cock in each replicate. The experimental groups were C (control group fed with basal diet only), T1 (fed control diet with 5.5 ppm arsenic through water), T2 (fed control diet with 5.5 ppm arsenic through water + 50 g methionine per 100 kg of feed) and T3 (fed same as T2 but 50% of the excess methionine supplement was replaced with betaine). The birds were maintained in deep litter system of housing. Statistical analysis confirmed that the concentration of arsenic in different organs, tissues and eggs were varied significantly (p< 0.01) due to dietary treatments. The long term intake of such arsenic contaminated hen eggs and meat by human being may act as some contributory factor to suffer from the serious health hazard. Statistical analysis confirmed that the concentration of arsenic (As) in various organs, tissues and eggs was significantly (p< 0.01) reduced due to supplementation of methionine and methionine-betaine in T2 and T3 groups, respectively as significantly (p< 0.01) larger amount of arsenic was voided through faeces in T2 and T3 groups than T1 group where no excess methionine or betaine was added in diet. So it may be concluded that supplementation of either methionine or methionine-betaine combination may able to protect the chronic arsenic toxicity during exposure of As in laying hen.
