  Biocontrol efficacy of selected isolates of nonpathogenic Fusarium and fluorescent Pseudomonas was determined in growth chambers and in microplots. The selected isolates of nonpathogenic Fusarium and fluorescent Pseudomonas were evaluated singly as well as in combination against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (Foc) causing chickpea wilt. Under growth chambers conditions, antagonists were applied as seed and soil treatment while in microplots only seed treatment was done. Pathogenic isolate of F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri was mixed in soil as soil treatment in all the combinations of antagonists. Under growth chamber conditions, there were 15-30 and 0-15% plants showing wilting after 30 days of sowing with treatment of nonpathogenic Fusarium and fluorescent Pseudomonas, respectively. Gradually the percentage of wilting increased and after 60 days of sowing it was 20-40 and 40-50%, respectively. The combination of Fo52 with C7R12 was the best where none of plants was observed wilted after 30 days of sowing and only 10% plants showed wilting after 60 days. Similar results were obtained from the microplot studies. The seed treatment with Fo52 and C7R12 in combination showed maximum seed germination and disease inhibition as compared to other treatment.

  The inability to have child is a personal tragedy and a large proportion of childless people are confronted with social stigmatization and frustration. Erectile dysfunction is one of the commonest disorders of male sexual function. Among the methods used to treat male infertility problems, medicinal plants have been used empirically as extracts, decoctions, fractions or semi-purified compounds. These herbal products are used in the treatment of a dysfunctioning of the libido, sexual asthenia, erection and sperm disorders. Penile erection depends on a complex interaction of psychological, neural, vascular and endocrine factors. Testosterone has an important role in both central and peripheral domains of this process. Pharmacological activities of many plants have been shown in vitro using cells, in vivo (on laboratory animals) and human studies. Plants provide a treatment option that is affordable and available for infertile couples and phytotherapy is an essential form of treatment in our health system .In this review, we have summarized most of the data dealing with role of testosterone and the effects of plant extracts on mammalian reproductive functions.

  Background and Objective: The neuroprotective ability of Ellagic Acid (EA) as a constructive herbal drug to impede cholinergic dysfunctions and oxidative stress in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) in chronically administered scopolamine induced Alzheimer’s type dementia in rats was evaluated. Methodology: Alzheimer’s type dementia was induced by chronically administered intraperitoneal injection of scopolamine (0.7 mg kg-1) to rats for period of 7 days. The EA (25 and 50 mg kg-1) and Donepezil (0.5 mg kg-1) were administrated to rats orally daily for a period of 13 days. Memory-related behavioral parameters were evaluated using the Elevated plus Maze (EPM) for 2 days and Morris Water Maze (MWM) for 5 days. At the end of protocol schedule i.e., day 14, biochemical parameters were estimated like AChE, MDA, GSH, catalase and SOD to evaluate the neuroprotective action of EA via AChE inhibition and antioxidant activity. Result: Chronically injected scopolamine treatment increased the transfer latency in EPM, escape latency time and shortened time spent in the target quadrant in MWM; these effects were reversed by EA. Scopolamine-mediated changes in malondialdehyde (MDA) and AChE activity were significantly attenuated by EA in rats. Recovery of antioxidant capacities, including reduced glutathione (GSH) content and the activities of SOD and catalase was also evident in EA treated rats. Conclusion: The present findings sufficiently encourage that EA has a major role in the neuroprotection in chronically injected Scopolamine induced Alzheimer type dementia. The EA can be used as an effectual herbal treatment to prevent cholinergic dysfunctions and oxidative stress associated with Alzheimer type dementia.

  Use of plants for health benefits is widespread in India. The present study was to investigate ethanolic seed extract of Caesalpinia crista for antioxidant activity by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide methods and anti inflammatory by Carrageenan induced paw edema and analgesic activity by writhing reflexes and by tail immersion method in mice. The extract showed potent antioxidant activity i.e., 73.9 and 77.7% at 300 μg mL-1 by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide method as compared to the standard (ascorbic acid). Further, the extract was evaluated for anti inflammatory activity and the extract showed maximum inhibition of 74.2% at 300 mg kg-1 by Carrageenan induced paw edema method as compared to standard (diclofenac). Furthermore, the extract was evaluated for analgesic activity the extract showed potent analgesic activity i.e., 71% at 300 μg mL-1 by writhing reflexes in mice and the tail withdrawal latency of mice was 5.30±0.05 sec at 300 μg mL-1 by tail immersion method. The present study concludes that Caesalpinia crista seeds have potent antioxidant, anti inflammatory and analgesic activity it can be used for therapeutic potential.
