  Two Cd(II) 1-D chain coordination polymers with Cd-Cl-Cd-Cl 1-D chains as bases, one connected to protonated 8-aminoquinoline by intermolecular hydrogen bonds lcub[Cd2(μ-Cl)4(Cl)2(CH3OH)(H2O)]·(H-aql)2rcubn (1) (aql = 8-aminoquinoline) and the other to 8-aminoquinoline [Cd(μ-Cl)2(aql)]n (2), have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. 1 belongs to the monoclinic system with space group P2(1)/m and 2 belongs to the monoclinic system with space group C2/c. Fluorescent properties of aql, 1, and 2 showed that the fluorescence spectrum (λmax = 386 nm) of 1 is mainly of aql ππ* character. The fluorescence spectrum of 2 which emits blue-green light (λmax = 497 nm) mainly involves a metal-perturbed intraligand ππ* transition from strong covalent bonds. Thermal stabilities of 1 and 2 have also been studied.

  A two-dimensional coordination polymer lcub[Ca2(tzda)2(H2O)4] · 3H2Orcubn, where H2tzda is a flexible carboxylate ligand (1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diyldithio)diacetic acid, was synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography, IR, TGA and photoluminescence. The results show that there are two crystallographically independent Ca atoms in the structure, which are both seven-coordinate, but with different coordination environments. Two kinds of tzda2- ligands with identical coordination mode exist in lcub[Ca2(tzda)2(H2O)4] · 3H2Orcubn. The η2-bridging O3 and O8 atoms link the Ca1 atoms into a 1-D chain, which are further connected by the tzda2- ligands forming a 2-D network. A series of hydrogen bonds link the 2-D network to form a 3-D architecture. The solid state luminescence behavior of lcub[Ca2(tzda)2(H2O)4] · 3H2Orcubn exhibits one intense emission band at 375 nm upon excitation at 315 nm which can be attributed to the intraligand emission.

  By combination of Mn(II) and Hg(II) salts with a flexible building unit 1,1’-(1, 5-pentanediyl)bis-1H-benzimidazole (pbbm), two 1-D chain metal-organic polymers [Mn(SCN)2(pbbm)2]n (1) and [{HgCl2(pbbm)] · DMF}n (2) have been prepared. The polymeric 1-D chains in 1 consist of parallel ribbons of rings, whereas 2 possesses a 1-D zig-zag chain framework based on tetrahedral mercury atoms bridged by pbbm molecules and terminally coordinated by two chlorides. The significant differences of these metal-organic frameworks indicate that the flexible pbbm ligand adjusts its conformation to meet the requirement of the coordination preference of the metal center. The photoluminescent properties of these new materials have been studied in the solid state at room temperature.

  Two new coordination polymers, {[Co(btmb)2(H2O)2] · (Fc(SO3)2)}n (1) and {[Cd(bbbm)(H2O)4] · (p-FcC6H4SO3)2(CH3OH)}n (2) (Fc = ferrocene; btmb = 1,4-bis(triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene); bbbm = 1,1'-(1,4-butanediyl)bis-1H-benzimidazole), were synthesized as cocrystals and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and IR spectrum. In 1, two btmb molecules link Co(II) ions into one 1D double-stranded chain of loops, and these chains are bridged by Fc(SO3)22¯ ligands through H-bonds, resulting in an infinite 2D sandwich-type network. In 2, two adjacent Cd(II) ions are interconnected by bbbm to generate a 1D zigzag chain structure, and p– FcC6H4SO3¯ squeezes like a wedge into the adjacent chains, further being assembled by O-H ··· O hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions to form a 2D supramolecular network.

  Three new complexes have been prepared based on 2-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl) acetic acid (Htza) and the Ln(III) salts La(NO)3 · 6H2O, PrCl3 · 6H2O, and NdCl3 · 6H2O. Their crystal structures have been characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. In each instance, the tetrazole ligand is both bridging and chelating-bridging connecting Ln(III) ions via the oxygens from carboxylate moieties. Thus infinite 1-D coordination polymers are formed. In addition, solid state UV spectra of the complexes are investigated.

  Two new coordination polymers, [ZnL]n (1) and {[Zn(phen)(L)(H2O)] · 3H2O}n (2) (H2L = 1,2-bis[3-(1,2,4-triazolyl)-4-amino-5-carboxylmethylthio]ethane, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and X-ray diffraction. Polymer 1 is a 1-D infinite chain (space group Pī) and further forms a 3-D supramolecular structure by S ··· S interactions and hydrogen bonds. Polymer 2 displays a mononuclear structure (space group Pī) and extends into a 3-D supramolecular structure through hydrogen bonds. In addition, spectra and thermal stability of 1 and 2 are also discussed. Strong luminescence characteristics of both polymers are found, suggesting their potential applications as luminescent materials.
