  An experiment was conducted to study the feasibility of legumes intercropping in sorghum based cropping system at 60,30/90 and 30/120 cm spaced single, double and triple row strips, respectively. The data showed that planting pattern of double row strips (30/90 cm) significantly (P< 0.05) increased the grain yield (5.95 t ha-1) of sorghum than single (5.65 t ha-1) or triple row strip (5.53 t ha-1) planting pattern. Legumes associations decreased the sorghum grain yield by 3.72 and 6.60% then pure stands of sorghum. The interaction between planting geometry and associated legumes culture was non-significant in both the years. However, double row strip planting with two rows of intercrop between the 90 cm space was found superior to other treatment combinations. Thus, this planting technique of sorghum-based legumes intercropping can be recommended for adoption to the farmers.

  It was observed that differences in plant height, number of branches plant -1, number of pods plant -1, 1000 grain weight and seed yield ha -1 were significant due to N:P levels. Treatments having N:P @ 75:100 kg ha -1 gave significantly higher grain yield and this increment was associated with all other parameters. However, further increase in N:P upto 100:150 kg ha -1 increased plant height and number of branches plant -1, but this increase was statistically non-significant. It could be concluded that for getting better soybean yield, N:P may be applied @ 75:100 kg ha -1 under the prevailing agro-climatic conditions of Peshawar.

  It was observed that all the physiological parameters of sunflower were significantly effected by the various levels of N. Maximum plant height, number of leaves plant-1, leaf area and head diameter were obtained from the plots where N:P:K was applied @ 120:75:50 kg ha-1. However, maximum germination (82.7 %) was recorded in control treatment as well as where N alone @ 75 kg ha-1 was applied .

  Number of cobs per plot, 1000-grain weight and grain yield were significantly effected by various levels of phosphorus and seed rate. Maximum number of cobs per plot (72.58), 1000-grain weight (334.08 g) and grain yield (3154.43 g) were obtained from plots receiving P2O5 @ 200 kg ha -1. Similarly, seed rate @ 60 kg ha -1 gave comparatively higher economic yield. Hence P2O5 @ 200 kg ha -1 and seed rate @ 60 kg ha -1 proved to be the best fertilizer and seed rate among all the treatments.

  Sewage sludge application had significantly effected all parameters of maize crop except germination percentage. Maximum Shoot length, Number of leaves per plant, Leaf area, Plant height, Root length, Shoot dry weight and Root dry weight of maize crop were obtained where sewage sludge was applied @ 10-30 ton ha-1. It was recommended that application of sewage sludge at the rate of 20 or 30 ton ha -1 will have favorable effect on the maize crop under the agro-climatic conditions of D.I.Khan.

  The experiment was conducted to study the response of improved soybean cultivars towards inoculum and NPK fertilizer. The different treatments produced non significant results except grain yield and 1000-seed weight which were highest where recommended dose of fertilizers along with inoculum was applied. Malakand-96 produced maximum number of nodules per plant, 1000 seed weight and grain yield ha-1 while Wahab-93 resulted in maximum number of seeds per plant. The interaction between cultivars and treatments was found non significant.

  Sewage effluent application had significantly effected all parameters of maize crop except germination percentage and root dry weight. Maximum number of leaves per plant, leaf area, shoot length, root length, total plant height and shoot dry weight of maize crop were obtained where sewage effluent were applied at concentration from 75 to 100%. It was recommended that application of sewage effluent at 75 to 100% concentration will have favorable effect on the maize crop under the agro-climatic conditions of D.I.Khan.
