Lipase is an enzyme responsible for digestion and absorption of lipids in the small intestine and effect of perlite in the diet of broilers on lipase enzyme had not been investigated. This study had been designed and performed to evaluate effect of different levels of perlite on lipase enzyme activity in small intestine of male broiler chicks. The experiment design was arranged as randomized complete bocks in 4 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatment. The 180 male broilers of Ross 308 commercial hybrid was designated into 3 groups (0, 2 and 4%). Three replicates of 20 birds were assigned to each treatment. Control treatments were fed base diet and treatment groups with the same base diet plus 2 or 4% perlite. Animals were slaughtered at 21, 28, 36 and 42 days and different segments of small intestine (at 1,10,30,50,70 and 90% of total length of the small intestine) were taken from each replicates (n=2). Lipase enzyme activity was measured and recorded. Data were analyzed by SAS (p<0.05). Data showed that intake of perlite, significantly increased Lipase enzyme activity at different weeks and sites of the small intestine of the broiler chicks (p<0.05). These data suggested that 2% perlite administration had significantly affected lipase activity as compared with control treatment.

Ketamine is a suitable injectable anesthetic in human and animal that has a low intestinal absorption rate. Its bioavailability in human with oral administration is 20±7% and with rectal administration in cat is 43.5±6.1%. This drug has some side effects such as hypertension, histamine releasing effects, hallucination, hyper salivation (especially with oral administration), etc. Clemastine is one ethanolaminic antihistamines with anticholinergic effects that can pass through blood-brain barrier and cause suppression of CNS. Then, it seems that co administration of clemastine and ketamine cause more effective and deep CNS depression effects. The aim of this study was evaluation of ketamine and clemastine CNS suppression effects in the manner of single and concomitant in cat. Ten free roaming male and mature cats received mentioned drugs (ketamine (20, 40 and 80 mg kg-1) and clemastine (0.68, 1.36 and 2.5 mg/cat)) as sublingual spray manner. Each animal was monitored continually by educated expert for CNS depression signs as graded on the behavioral scales. Clemastine alone in sublingual spray administration did not show a significant CNS depression effects. But ketamine in different doses showed a significant dose dependent effect. Concomitant use of clemastine with ketamine reduced CNS depression effects of ketamine. But duration of CNS depression was longer in co administration of these two drugs. Results showed that when ketamine sprayed in mouth (as sublingual form) a strong and long CNS depression was achieved.

Methotrexate is one of the acid folic antagonists which are used widely as chemotherapy agent to treatment of kinds of leukemia and other malignancies. It has been suggested that the substance melatonin (5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine), discovered by Aaron Lerner in 1958, exists in almost every animal species and possibly even in all plants. In this study, 30 wistar rats were allocated into the 3 groups of 10 rats. Group 1 as control group received normal saline. Group 2 received MTX at the dose of 20 mg kg-1 as ip. Group 3 beside of MTX received melatonin at the dose of 25 mg kg-1 as oral. Results showed that AST and ALT serum levels and hepatic injury in that group received methotrexate were higher than control group and ALT serum level in that group received melatonin plus methotrexate was more than control group and was less than group 2. In this study revealed that melatonin has hepatoprotective effect against methotrexate induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
