  In vitro micropropagation of sugarcane variety viz., Isd-28 and Isd-29 have been studied. Nutrient media containing growth regulators enhanced callus induction, shoot differentiation and root formation in vitro. For covenant experiment, surface sterilization of the explants from the field grown plants was essential and sterilization with 0.1% HgCl2 for 8 min was satisfactory. In this treatment, 85-90% of the leaf sheath explants was Contamination free. Among the explants cultured for proliferation fortified with 3.0 mg L-1 2, 4-D explants of all the 2 varieties of sugarcane showed the best performance for the callus induction after 16-20 days of culture. The concentration of BA tested 1.5 mg L-1 of the cytokinin produced comparatively higher percentage of shoot proliferation. Different concentration of BA mg L-1 in combination with different auxin viz., IAA, IBA and NAA were tested for shoot proliferation. Isd-28 and Isd-29 showed best shooting when media were supplemented with BA 1.5 mg L-1+0.5 mg L-1 NAA. In vitro proliferated shoots were rooted on MS and modified MS media. Best results of rooting ware observed on modified MS medium supplemented with auxins (NAA+IBA) 0.5 mg L-1 and 0.5 mg L-1 showed fair results. Eighty to ninety percent regenerated plantlets were viable at normal temperature with 85% humidity while transferred sterilized soil.

  Present investigation was carried out on two quantitative characters of the mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori L. viz., total number of eggs laid per female and filament length of treated eggs with four doses (Control, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0%) of N-nitroso-N-ethylurea (NEU) under the following experiments: Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance were estimated in different doses separately. A wide range of variation was recorded for both the characters and the major portion of the total variance was inherited with the phenotypical variance. The maximum heritability was recorded for total number of eggs laid per female and filament length showed a high genetic advance at all the doses. A high heritability with high genetic advance was also noted for the total number of eggs laid per female and filament length at all the doses.

  The present investigation deals with the effect of nickel chloride supplementation on the growth of Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae). The weights of mature Bombyx mori L. larvae were 1522.10 ± 78.97, 1579.67 ± 61.29, 1685.13 ± 61.77, 1781.60 ± 66.62, 1801.60 ± 60.69 and 1426.07 ± 89.48 mg for nickel chloride at 0 (Control), 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 ppm, respectively. The weights of male and female pupae were 648.03 ± 37.97 and 763.57 ± 55.44, 667.50 ± 51.10 and 774.23 ± 54.33, 682.60 ± 61.78 and 811.47 ± 61.13, 712.23 ± 42.46 and 841.33 ± 63.04, 746.77 ± 45.73 and 871.30 ± 50.47, 618.40 ± 30.61 and 713.70 ± 63.16 mg for nickel chloride for above applied doses. The weights of male and female adults were 300.67 ± 70.07 and 546.27 ± 61.67, 317.63 ± 42.98 and 559.50 ± 76.87, 331.90 ± 48.93 and 571.50 ± 80.46, 352.00 ± 55.14 and 597.67 ± 56.53, 373.17 ± 46.53 and 645.23 ± 55.34, 283.40 ± 43.89 and 514.27 ± 75.83 mgs for nickel chloride for above applied doses. The weights of male and female cocoons were 752.07 ± 31.70 and 87.17 ± 55.50; 769.23 ± 49.84 and 889.10 ± 50.40, 795.53 ± 61.69 and 937.10 ± 59.70, 841.33 ± 42.25 and 970.53 ± 62.33, 856.93 ± 48.50 and 979.63 ± 44.09, 717.27 ± 32.13 and 822.13 ± 64.96 mg for nickel chloride at 0(Control), 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 ppm, respectively. The results were statistically significant (P<0.001) among the concentrations. From the above results it may be concluded that nickel chloride can be used at low concentrations for enhancing the economic character of silkworm, Bombyx mori L.

  The present study was to investigate the nutritive values such as moisture, ash, fibre, protein, fat, carbohydrate as well as Phytate and zinc content of different locally developed improved eleven varieties of wheat, four varieties of legumes. The nutritive values, Phytate and zinc content were analyzed by standard methods. Among all cereals and legumes sample studied, fat content varies from 1.9-3.12 g; protein content varies from 8.9-12.5 g and carbohydrate content varies from 58-71.3 g, respectively. From the study it is revealed Akbar variety of wheat content the highest amount of fat (3.12 g) and carbohydrate (72.5 g) and grass pea contain the highest amount of protein (28.2 g/100 g edible portion). Phytate and zinc contents of different varieties of wheat, legumes are studied. Among the tested samples grass pea was the highest Phytate content (745.5 mg/100 g edible portion). Zinc content was found in different wheat varieties (1.08-3.94 mg) and legumes (2.75-3.96 mg). Maximum content of zinc in legumes (grass peas, 3.96 mg) and wheat (kanchan and Gaurav varieties 3.94 mg). Maximum Phytate and zinc contents of whole-wheat flour were found 712 mg (Akbar variety) and 3.94 mg (kanchon and Gaurav varieties)/100 g edible portions, respectively. Phytate-zinc molar ratios ranged from 15.3-22.2 in different wheat varieties and 16.9-19.4 in legumes. Balaka variety of wheat contents the highest Phytate-zinc molar ratio (22.2). In this study, estimated Phytate-zinc molar ratio of Bangladeshi daily diet was found to be 12.7.
