A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the growth and yield performance of two blackgram varieties i.e., BARImash 3 and BINAmash 1 under three different population densities. The planting configurations were 40 x 10 cm2, 30 x 10 cm2 and 40 x 5 cm2 representing 25, 33 and 50 plants m-2. Both the blackgram varieties showed identical results in LAI, CGR, NAR, RGR as well as grain yield. But planting density had significant effects on LAI and CGR of the blackgram varieties. The highest planting density showed the highest LAI and CGR but the highest grain yield was recorded from intermediate population density due to the highest number of pods per unit area. The NAR and RGR did not differ due to different population densities. |

A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the gas exchange, leaf area dynamics
and dry matter accumulation of blackgram varieties namely BARI mash 3 and BINA
mash 1. The two blackgram varieties did not differ statistically in gas exchange
characteristics, leaf area and dry matter accumulation over the growth stages.
Blackgram showed highest photosynthesis rate at flowering stage, might be attributed
due to higher leaf chlorophyll, higher stomatal and mesophyll conductance and lower
intercellular CO2 concentration, but the highest respiration rate was found at pod
filling stage. Leaves of top canopy showed highest gas exchange characteristics
followed by the leaves of middle canopy and then bottom canopy. Diurnally,
photosynthesis increased gradually with increasing intensity of light and peaked at
around noon then decreases. Photosynthesis showed strong correlation with leaf area
and dry matter accumulation of blackgram. |

The electrical distribution networks overload, caused by a massive use of heating and air-conditioning systems in peak hour, has made load shedding the only means of recourse to protect the network from total collapse. This problem can be attenuated by energy storage produced at off peak hour by incorporating some phase change materials in the envelope of the building. To evaluate the impact of such a material used as wallboard on thermal comfort, a numeric model based on the thermal balances of the building is elaborated and solved using an explicit diagram of finite differences. The use of the model, after validation, for the simulation of a building in extreme conditions alloys the confirmation of the possibility of shifting part of the electrical consumption from peak hour to off peak hour. |

An experiment was conducted to determine optimum sowing time for different varieties
of blackgram in Jamalpur region (AEZ-9) of Bangladesh. Pooled analysis exhibited
a significant variation among the varieties in respect of seed yield. Barimash-3
produced the highest seed yield (977 kg/ha) which was statistically similar
to that of Binamash-1 (960 kg/ha). Barimash-2 produced the lowest seed yield
(866 kg/ha). Sowing dates exerted significant effect on seed yield. First sowing
(31st August) produced significantly highest seed yield (1168 kg/ha) while the
lowest seed yield (541 kg/ha) was found in the latest (28 September) sowing.
Interaction also produced significant effect on seed yield. The highest seed
yield (1225 kg/ha) was recorded from Barimash-3 with August sowing while the
lowest (404 kg/ha) was found in Barimash-2 with Sep. 28 sowing. All varieties
produced maximum seed yield with August sowing. Barimash-3 and Binamash-1 performed
better than others with delayed sowing up to Sep. 14 during both years. |
