  This study aimed at providing information on the species list and structure of flora resources in Pandam Wildlife Park. To achieve this, both plot and plotless methods for vegetation analysis were used. Girth at breast height was measured with diameter tape at 1.4 m above the ground and before the first branching. Height was measured by the angular pace method while crown area was determined from two perpendicular distances of tree canopy. Results obtained showed that there were 152 species of vascular plants belonging to 52 families. Frequency of species occurrence in the families ranged from 4.62% in Cyperaceae to 14.52% in Poaceae. Most of the trees were in the 0 50cm girth class category irrespective of the vegetation type. The Burkea woodland recorded the highest percentage of trees in the height class of 0 10 m while, the Riparian forest recorded the highest percentage of trees in the height class 20m. Crown cover ranged from 3754.30 m ha 1 in Burkea woodland to 9488.16 mha 1 in the Riparian forest.

  Ten elite wheat breeding lines were evaluated for yield and yield components under rainfed conditions at Peshawar. Genotypic and phenotypic associations between the characters and their direct and indirect effects on grain yield were analyzed. Plant height showed positive correlation only with spikelets per spike and was negatively correlated with the other studied characters. Positive correlation of tillers per plant was observed with all the traits except spikelets per spike. Spike length was found to be positively correlated with spikelets per spike and grain yield and negatively so with 1000-grain weight. Significantly negative correlation of spikelets per spike was observed with 1000 grain weight and grain yield. Correlation coefficient between 1000-grain weight and grain yield ha-1 was positive and significant. Overall tillers per plant, spike length and 1000-grain weight showed significant positive correlation with grain yield while plant height and spikelets per spike were negative and significantly (p<0.05) correlated with grain yield. Path analysis indicated that tillers per plant had the highest positive direct effect on grain yield followed by spikelets per spike and 1000-grain weight, whereas plant height and spike length had negative direct effect on this parameter.

  This study was carried out to determine water bird species list, dry season absolute population density and seasonal diversity in the Wetland areas of Yankari National Park. The point count method was used for the inventory of individual species. Diversity was determined using Simpsonís diversity index, while student t-test analysis of variance were used to compare water bird species diversity between seasons and sites. The results obtained indicated that a total of 49 water bird species belonging to 11 families occurred in the park. The dry season means density per hectare of water birds in the study area ranged from 43.43±5.12 for Ardeola ibis to 0.03±0.25 for Phalacrorax africana.There was no significant difference (p>0.05) in water birds diversity in Yankari National Park between dry and rainy seasons. Diversity of water birds by sites did not also vary (p>0.05). However, more water birds were observed in the dry season than in the rainy season. It is expected that the findings from this study will promote appropriate management strategies for conservation and maximum utilization of water birds in wetland areas of Yankari National Park.

  A field study was conducted to evaluate the effect of adding a wetting agent to 2, 4-D on weed control in wheat. Triton @ 200 and 250 was used as wetting agent with recommended (1.3 kg ha-1) and reduced rate (1.00 kg ha-1) of 2, 4-D . Weedy check and sole application of 2, 4-D was also included for comparision. Different weed control treatments significantly reduced the weed population compared to weedy check. Appliction of 2, 4-D @ 1.3 kg ha-1 added with wetting agent @ 200 ml kg-1 of 2, 4-D gave 39 per cent more grain yield than weedy check.

  Five substituted area based herbicides namely Isoproturon (Alrelon 500 FW), Isoproturon + Diflufenican (Panther 520 FW) Isoproturon + Bromoxynil + MCPA (Doublet 48 FW), Chlortoluron + MCPA (Agmol combi 60 WP) and Isoproturon (Milron 75 WP) applied @ 2.5 1, 2.0 1, 2.5 1, 2.5 kg and 1.25 kg ha -1, respectively, controlled, 87.2 to 90.8 per cent weeds in wheat and caused 10.29 to 15.98 per cent increase in grain yield over weedy check. These herbicides, when applied with 3 per cent urea solution, gave 92.6 to 95 per cent weed control and 19.24 to 25.47 per cent increase in grain yield over weedy check.

  The effect of ammonia treatment of straw and of barley and lucern-unmolassed sugar beet pulp supplementation on intake, digestibility, nitrogen retention and metabolizable energy of barley straw was studied in sheep. A conventional balance trial was conducted in two periods with 12 sheep, six sheep receiving the same straw in each period, with two sheep on each diet. Chemical analysis of the straw showed a remarkable increase in crude protein content (2.90-8.75% DM) intake (744-939 g/day), dry matter digestibility (56.9-65.3%) nitrogen retention (-10.2-1.4 g/100g N intake) and ME (6.60-8.01 MJ/kgDM) after treatment with ammonia. Supplementation with barley and to lesser extent with lucern-sugar beet pulp, suppressed straw intake but increased total intake up to 600 g dry matter per day.

  Study to determine the effect of different levels of N and P on the fodder yield and quality of rice bean comprised NP combinations of 0-0 (control), 25-25, 25-50, 25-75, 50-25, 50-50 and 50-75 kg ha–1. Plant height, number of branches, leaves and leaf area increased significantly by the application of N and P over control. Maximum green fodder yields of 50.35, 51.61 and 53.03 t ha–1 were obtained in plots fertilized at 50-25, 50-50 and 50-75 kg ha–1, NP respectively. Crude protein, crude fibre and ash contents of the rice bean were increased by increasing rates of N and P.

  Response of two sorghum cultivars namely Hegari and JS-263 to different NP levels of 0-0, 50-0, 100-0, 50-50, 100-50 and 100-100 kg ha–1 was studied under field conditions. The cultivar Hegari gave significantly higher green fodder and dry matter yield due to greater plant height, stem diameter and leaf area plant–1. The crude fiber per cent and ash per cent were also significantly higher for cultivar Hegari. A progressive increase in yield was observed with fertilizer application up to 100 kg N + 50 kg P205 ha–1 whereas, the quality parameters such as protein content, crude fiber and ash percent were significantly higher with NP application of 100 + 100 kg ha–1. The cultivar Hegari and fertilizer level of 100 kg N + 50 kg P205 ha–1 seems to be the best combination for harvesting higher fodder yield of sorghum under Faisalabad conditions.
