  We present a new event ranking algorithm that applies to a single document. The rules of identifying events are defined first and then the event relation graph is constructed to represent the single document. Based on the adjacency matrix of the event relation graph, the method of ranking events for a single document is elaborated. Present experimental results show that the algorithm of ranking events can achieve satisfied ranking results with an average Recall of 74.5% and an average Kendall’ T of 0.374 for 40 documents.

  In this study, we focus on the two subtasks of Chinese event extraction: (1) Chinese event detection and identification; (2) Chinese event argument extraction. Some features for the two subtasks are provided. Considering the particular contributions of different features on classification analysis in the subtasks, we weight features by introducing ReliefF algorithm. Experimental results show that comparing with normal K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm, feature weighting obviously improves the F-Measures in Chinese event detection and identification and Chinese event argument extraction.

  As the unit of human knowledge, event is used to describe all kinds of knowledge in the world. Action which is one of the main factors in event describes the changing processes of world states in a specific period of time. As we know, there are different states in different time and the main reason of states changes is caused by action. Therefore, it is necessary to embrace temporal information into the representation about action to describe these changes. In this study, we first proposed a temporal description logic T-ALC, in which the temporal information as a constraint of instances was added to ABox. It provided a kind of decidable approach to deal with the states changes of objects in action. Then, we defined the syntax and semantics of action based on T-ALC. Especially, the semantics of action can be transformed into the changing processes of interpretations and the calculation of new interpretations and ABox were also given. Finally, several inference services of action in different time were studied.

  Representation of event plays a key role in research of event ontology. In this study we propose a concept algebra and frame-based representation for both event and event class. The advantages of proposed representation model are; it represent dynamic state changing progress of event, it represent relationships between events and it construct event class from event instances by operations of concept algebra. Solid definitions and formal representation are given to explain the event model and relationships between events. Case studies demonstrate the model is effective to represent events and events class.
