  The effect of the variation of Mg concentration (MgC) 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 and 6 meq.L-1 in the Nutrient Solution (NS) on strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa Duch.) “Seolhyang” growth was evaluated at 120 days after transplantation of runners. The effect of Mg-deficiency, first seen by the appearance of necrosis in the old leaves. On young leaves a spotted brown or brown area developed on the interveinal area with spotted marginal browning or marginal necrosis. The greatest application of 6 meq.L-1 of Mg in NS caused a reduction in pigmentation and suppressed plant growth severely. The MgC 2 meq.L-1 resulted in the relatively highest vegetative growth with a favorable Electrical Conductivity (EC) and pH, for a better growth and nutrients uptake. The Dry Weight (DW) and Fresh Weight (FW) were weakly correlated with variation of MgC (R2 = 0.024 and 0.16, respectively). The response to the variation of MgC on the EC and pH were also, weakly correlated (R2 = 0.15 and 0.21, respectively). The MgC 2 meq.L-1compounded initially by 5 K+, 5 Ca2+ 2 Mg2+, 1 Na+, 10 NO3-, 2SO42, 1 H2PO4- with a pH 6.5, EC =2.2 dS m-1, K+/(Ca2++Mg2+) = 0.71 and Σcations = Σanions (13 meq.L-1) was improved by decreasing a pH, by adding NH4+ in NS and by adjusting the ratio cited to around 0.61. Depending of the results of this study, the new solution improved is compounded by 5 Ca2+, 4.5 K+, 2.3 Mg2+, 2.5 NH4+, 5 NO3-, 2.3SO42- and 1 H2PO4-with Σcations = Σcations (14.3 meq.L-1), a pH6 and EC = 2.3 dS m-1.

  The influence of different treatments of NaCl (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM) on water uptake, α-amylase activity, total soluble sugars, germinationand root length of two bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars (Cocorose, Djadida) were studied during germination. Increase in NaCl stress reduced moderately seed’s water uptake. The effect of salinity on α-amylase activity depends on the concentration of NaCl. This activity increased with time (48 and 72 h) at lower stress salinity (50 and 100 mM NaCl) and decreased when salt concentration reached 150 mM. However, soluble sugars content augmented significantly inducing therefore, a significant decrease in the osmotic potential of bean seeds during germination. Nevertheless, lower concentrations of NaCl (50 and 100 mM) did not affect the rate of seed germination. In contrast, this trait was significantly reduced at 150 and 200 mM NaCl. Radicle length growth was the most affected parameter by salinity treatment. These results suggest that for both treatment of 50 and 100 mM NaCl, seed germination was not affected by salinity and the α-amylase activity was increased. At 150 and 200 mM NaCl these traits were markedly affected. Moreover, increasing concentrations of NaCl in the medium was accompanied by an increase of the soluble sugar contents in bean seeds which lead to decrease their osmotic potential.

  The Co-Compostage (CC) of Palm (Poenix dactylifera L.) Fiber (PF) and Sewage Sludge (SS) at volume rate (1PF/1SS), mixed with Top Soil (TS) have been used as a substrate for cucumber cultivated in soilless crop system. Five substrates with volume ratio T (CC-TS) were tested: T (10-0), T (9-1), T (8-2), T (7-3) and T (6-4). They were compared to peat in nursery and to TS in Cucumis sativus L. crop production. Total porosity, bulk density, moisture content, rate of drainage, pH and electritical conductivity of T (8-2) and T (7-3) were relatively favorable for plant growth. After 45 days of growth and in comparison to peat, T (9-1), T (8-2) and T (7-3) gave the best parameters of root development: volume, architecture, length, number, best seedling growth and a positive correlation (R = 0.751) between root and shoot dry matter. After 120 days, cucumber attained the best root development under T (8-2) and T (7-3). Fruits production of these substrates was 40% higher than those of the control.
