Research data management is essential for an institution. Before planning a research data management, an institution needs to build a research data management policy. Each university needs the policy as a guideline for the implementation of research data management. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate essential elements of research data management policy. A qualitative content analysis was used to gain insights into best practices of data management policy in selected universities. The findings yielded eight standard items of research data management policy utilized by most top universities globally. The findings are useful toward devising a research data management policy for the Malaysian higher institutions to support research data life cycle and to provide improvements in research efficiency. Future studies should focus on implementing the framework and measuring the effectiveness.

The objective of this study is to reveal the degree to which prerequisite of foundation knowledge and skill obtainable through institution of higher education might influence prospective graduates’ employability proficiencyin terms of interpersonal and enterprise skills. An exploratory factor analysis was used to verify factor structures that shape the foundation of this generic transfer. The results indicated that respondents were in conformity on how higher education program, internship, extracurricular activities and campus life could possibly influence employability proficiency at their respective workplaces. The present study could also lead any scholar to examine systematic changes in factors affecting employability proficiency in workplace in Malaysia as lecturers incorporate the remuneration of additional interactive teaching with the conventional literary practices entrenched in the engineering syllabus.

This study, embarked on the following objectives: to investigate Mandarin MOOC administrators’ readiness for the planning and implementation of Mandarin MOOC; to find out undergraduate’s opinion on the effectiveness of the online learning or MOOC and to examine the critical factors for the sustaina bility of Mandarin MOOC from the perspective of Mandarin MOOC administrators and under graduates. This is a qualitative study using an in-depth face-to-face interview. A Single Case Single issue (SCSS) was also used. The findings yielded that internet connection affected the engagement of learners in online learning. Besides, another challenge in sustaining Mandarin MOOC is the quality of Mandarin MOOC content. Among the strategies to sustain Mandarin MOOC are through creating usable content for MOOC and improving the internet connection. This study, is beneficial for stakeholders in MOOC including tutors, policy makers and administrators. In future, more studies should be done to evaluate whether this course can address the needs of the diverse population.

Hitherto, various database systems exist in archiving research data at institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. The library, Centre of Research Management, Centres of Excellence, Publisher and e-Repository have separate databases to archive and manage the data. This poses a challenge as no one department is in a position to ‘own’ the resulting set of services. Data are complex and heterogeneous and little agreement is reached on standards to describe data across disciplines. Hence, a centralized research data management is vital to act as a single source of ‘signposting’ information which offers a valuable resource for researchers from multi-disciplinary fields for the different stages of research cycle. This study investigated the ways in which universities in the advanced countries implemented data management infrastructure through a qualitative content analysis of websites. The data are useful toward devising a conceptual framework of research data management for the Malaysian Higher Institutions. Furthermore, the proposed framework with will be useful for Research Management Centres in universities to provide a centralized platform for researchers in guiding them through the research data life cycle and offer fresh insights.
