  This study proposed a method of camera self-calibration with the positive tri-prism. The coordinates of circular points can be obtained through the properties of positive tri-prism. According to the theory of projective transformation, the coordinates of the vanishing points of each edges of positive tri-prism can be obtained. After that, combined with the corollary of Laguerre theorem (the infinity points of two mutually perpendicular lines and the circular points harmonic conjugate), one can obtain the image coordinates of the circular points. By computing coordinates of whole the circular points in an image, according to the constraints on the intrinsic parameters which are established through image of the absolute-conic, we can obtain the intrinsic parameters linearly. The method algorithm has been tested on both computer simulated data and real data. The technique only required single target image and the orientation of camera did not need to be known. The results gained considerable robustness.

  Estimation of camera relative positions is very important in computer vision. Assuming that the camera has been calibrated, this study presents two algorithms of camera relative pose estimation which one is to recover the camera motion parameters by essential matrix and the other by epipolar geometry. Algorithm 1 is commonly used in three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction. In algorithm 2, firstly linearize coplanar condition equation through Taylor's expansion and solve elements of relative orientation by iteration procedure, finally recover camera motion parameters. Compared with the above two algorithms, algorithm 1 requires at least eight pairs of matching points and consider degenerate condition, algorithm 2 simply requires five pairs of matching points. Experimental data reveals that the two algorithms are feasible and the results of them are close which have the higher robustness and can satisfy the requirement of 3D reconstruction.

  The complete CDS sequence of Banna Mini-pig Inbred Line (BMI) gene STXBP6 was amplified using the Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) based on the conserved sequence information of the rat, mouse or other mammals and known highly homologous swine ESTs. This novel gene was then deposited into NCBI database and located on Chromosome 7 of pig and assigned to accession number JF750402. Sequence analysis revealed that the BMI STXBP6 encodes a protein of 210 amino acids that has high homology with the Syntaxin Binding Protein 6 (STXBP6) of four other species rat (100%), mouse (99%), cattle (99%) and human (99%). The phylogenetic tree analysis revealed BMI STXBP6 has a closer genetic relationship with the rat STXBP6 than with those of mouse, cattle and human. Analysis by RT-PCR showed that BMI STXBP6 gene was over-expressed in lung, moderately expressed in midbrain, ovary, diencephalon, spleen, nerve fiber, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, skin, muscle and fat, weakly expressed in kidney and heart and almost not expressed in lymph node, cerebrum, liver and pancreas. The experiment will establish a foundation for further insight into this swine gene.

  Camera calibration is an important part of computer vision. The theory is based on the formation of orthogonal vanishing point under perspective projection and linear calibration for a camera. A novel camera self-calibration method based on orthogonal vanishing point is presented, of which the target is the regular prismoid where a top is the regular polygon that can contain a set of points at infinity in orthogonal directions and sides are congruent isosceles trapezoids that also contain a set of points in infinity in orthogonal directions. The point at infinity is called the vanishing point in the image plane. According to the constraints of the orthogonal vanishing points to absolute conic, the intrinsic parameters of a camera can be solved linearly. The experimental results show that the algorithm can accurately and reliably estimate the intrinsic parameters of the camera and it is very close to the actual situation.

  Some high birefringence ester liquid crystal compounds with cyanate or isothiocyanate polar groups were investigated, the relaxation frequency of which is in the kilo-Hertz region. These compounds are useful for formulating dual-frequency liquid crystal (DFLC) mixtures. The dielectric relaxation and electro-optical properties of these compounds were characterised. Potential applications of these compounds for DFLC mixtures to meet different requirements are discussed.
