  In this study, we consider the joint application of adaptive Soft Frequency Reuse (SFR) and Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) to dynamic Inter-Cell Interference (ICI) cancellation. The ICI is the dominant factor in system performance degradation for uplink in multi-cell Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems. This study firstly investigates the problem of ICI for uplink. Then dynamic ICI cancellation for uplink in OFDMA systems is proposed. When loading is small, low complexity and practical adaptive soft frequency reuse is adopted. As users in the boundary grow larger, MRC is applied to improve edge user performance, which can also cancel ICI by reducing user transmission power. Analysis results show the proposed scheme can provide better reuse efficiency over the adaptive SFR and also can mitigate ICI significantly. Simulation results indicate that the ergodic capacity proposed scheme increases larger 14.5% than not using MRC for Es/N0 around 10 dB. Higher spectral efficiency is achieved for large number of users in multi-cell environments, especially for users at the cell boundary.

  The integration of heterogeneous wireless network has become an overwhelming tendency. So, it is a huge challenge for the network designers that how to manage resource in these access networks with different Radio Access Technologies (RATs) in a cooperative mode. As a feasible scheme, Generic Link Layer (GLL) is introduced. In this study, a novel multi-radio packet scheduling algorithm, is proposed for real-time traffic. There are four outstanding contributions in QU. First, in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) of real-time traffic and avoid wasting resource, a scheduling utility function is developed to represent the degree of satisfaction of performing a packet scheduling in term of avoiding wasting resource provided that guaranteeing QoS. Second, using this utility function, a packet scheduling model, which in fact is a NP problem, is designed and analyzed based on joint consideration of fairness. Third, for improving execution rate, Hopfield Neural Network (HNN) is used to fast find an optimal solution for the scheduling model. Final, simulation is set up and is compared with M-LWDF and PLR algorithms to evaluate performance of QU algorithm. Simulation results show that under high load QU algorithm has lower packet loss ratio and higher spectrum efficiency while offers allowable average packet delay.

  Joint Radio Resource Management (JRRM) is the envisaged approach to optimize the radio resource usage of the heterogeneous wireless networks. In particular, this study proposes a novel Joint Radio Resource Management framework with the Radio Resource Reallocation function to improve the radio resource efficiency. Radio Resource Reallocation entity is introduced to the JRRM framework which dynamically reallocates the ongoing sessions of different Radio Access Networks to achieve better radio resource utilization. In order to realize Radio Resource Reallocation, we build the system model of the composite 3G scenario and investigate the Radio Resource Reallocation approach based on Integer Programming. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed JRRM with Radio Resource Reallocation function can improve the radio resource efficiency and perform better than that without Radio Resource Reallocation function.
