  The strain relaxation in SiGe layer on silicon substrate during wet oxidation at 1000°C was investigated. It was proposed that the competition between Ge accumulation and diffusion led to different strain-relaxation behaviors. At the very beginning, Ge atoms at the oxidizing interface were quickly accumulated due to the high oxidation rate resulting in the additional nucleation of misfit dislocations (therefore a lot of threading dislocations) to relieve stress after the thickness of the Ge condensed layer was larger than the critical value. And then, when the Ge accumulation rate was less than the diffusion rate, Ge content started to decrease from a maximum value and the strain in the SiGe layer was mainly relieved through surface roughing and the degree of strain relaxation reached a maximum. When the samples were further oxidized, Ge accumulation could be neglected because of the self-limiting oxidation and the Ge diffusion dominated the consequent processes. As a result, Ge content at the interface was reduced, with the contribution of the strain relaxation in SiO2 viscously, leading to the decrease of degree of strain relaxation in the SiGe layers slowly.

  This study presents a Hadamard transform based blind digital watermarking scheme whose extraction process doesn’t require the original image. In this scheme, we use a binary image as the original watermark. During the embedding process, the original cover image is first partitioned into non-overlapped 8x8 blocks and the Arnold transform is performed on the original watermark to make the scheme more robust. Secondly, the Hadamard transform is applied to the blocks. Thirdly, one bit information is embedded in each block by modifying the relationship of two coefficients in the transformed matrix. Finally, the inverse Hadamard transform is performed on the modified coefficient matrix to obtain the watermarked image. The experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method performs well in both security and robustness against general image processing operations and various kinds of attacks, while keeping the invisibility very well.

  Although, many fragile video watermarking techniques have been proposed as an effective solution to content authentication problems, they cannot effectively distinguish between legal attacks and illegal attacks. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel semi-fragile video watermarking algorithm for H.264 video. Traditional fragile video watermarking methods often select the motion vectors as the embedding positions, while our scheme adopt the intra-prediction residuals after Integer DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) and quantization to be embedding locations. During the watermark embedding process, we modify the standard H.264 quantizer and we embed the watermark based on the dither modulation technique in order to extract the watermark blindly. In the watermark extraction process, this paper adopts a threshold to distinguish between illegal attacks and legal attacks performed on the video clip. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm and the proposed scheme can survive legal recompression operations and recognize illegal filtering operations.

  Fast face detection is very essential for many applications such as video surveillance and human computer interface. This study presents a fast face detection method using the HSV-based skin color model under non-constrained scene conditions. First, a skin color model that combines the HSV color space with K-L transform-based skin color filter is designed. Then, skin regions in the input image are detected and face candidates based on the spatial arrangement of these skin patches are generated. Finally, the mouths in all of the candidate human face regions are verified by a mouth detector. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is not only fast and efficient, but also robust to head rotation.

  Super-resolution image reconstruction is an important digital image processing technique, which can improve the visual effects of images or serve as a pre-processing technique. Because of its impressive reconstruction results, sparse representation based super-resolution image reconstruction has become the focus of recent research. In order to alleviate the high computational complexity of the traditional sparse representation schemes, this study presents a fast sub-dictionary-based super-resolution reconstruction method. For each small input image block, a sub-dictionary is adaptively selected and thus the high-dimensional redundant dictionary-based sparse representation vector is replaced by a low-dimensional sub-dictionary based representation vector, the computational complexity is therefore reduced. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can enhance the visual effects of images with a significantly low computational complexity.

  The energy storage technique is one of the most effective means for the real-time wind power regulation to enhance the stability of wind power. Firstly, this study discussed the operation mode of energy storage system in the course of real-time wind power balance. Also, it was proposed that the energy storage system applied into the real-time wind power regulation should be of the properties of high power density, high energy density and long cycle life. From the standpoint of practical engineering, this study carried out a comparative analysis on the energy storage properties of different energy storage elements. Furthermore, the research status and engineering development of each energy storage element were introduced. In view of the deficiency of single energy storage pattern, the composition of hybrid energy storage system was described. According to the operation requirement for balancing the fluctuant wind power in real-time, a comparative research on the topology of battery-supercapacitor energy storage system was carried out. This study hopes to supply new hints for enhancing the power controllability of wind farm.

  As a traditional medicinal herb in China, Penthorum chinense Push from Gulin county is regarded as genuine regional drug with better clinical effects. To discriminate the geographical origin of six P. chinense samples cultivated in three provinces, Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was carried out with an improved method to increase the resolution and production using 10 mer-random primers. Similarity index was ranged from 0.61 to 0.97, which demonstrated that samples from different localities displayed similar band patterns. However, based on the analysis of selected 13 primers, primers SBS-I9, SBS-I20 and SBS-Q9 produced distinguishable bands among Sichuan, Yunnan and Hubei P. chinense. T-test of mean S.I. values of six accessions demonstrated the significant differences between Luzhou or Sichuan samples and others. Cluster analysis indicated that cultivars with close geographic distributions were clustered together consequently. This suggested that there are RAPD site variations and local specialized genotypes among the six samples. The results indicated that RAPD analysis is effective in distinguishing the geographical origin of genuine regional drug P. chinense grown in Luhzou, Sichuan. The approach is a valuable tool to authenticate other morphologically similar herbal medicinal materials.

  Expression sequences of human Lactoferrin (LF) and Internal Ribozyme Entry Site (IRES) were successfully connected by double enzyme digestion and directed cloning and recombination plasmid pIL was constructed. Mammary gland specific expression plasmid pEBHIL of human lysozyme and human LF was constructed by BamHI restrictive enzyme digestion. Plasmid pEBHIL was introduced to cow mammary gland epithelial cells after liposome transfection. Positive cells were determined by G418 and PCR after EGFP expression observed by fluorescent microscope and proliferated and induced by hormone. The results of Western Blotting analysis on cell supernatant showed that transfected cells had expressed and secreted human lysozyme (MW 14.7 ku) and human LTF (MW 40 ku).

  Glass formation was investigated for the La100-xAl0.412x(Cu,Ni)0.588x(x = 30-56.3) alloys. The optimum Glass Forming Ability (GFA) with full glassy rods of 12 mm in diameter was obtained at an off-eutectic composition La62Al15.7(Cu,Ni)22.3, by copper mold casting, while a full glassy rod of only 1.5 mm in diameter was obtained at the La66Al14(Cu, Ni)20 eutectic alloy. A strong dependence of GFA on the composition was observed for these alloys. It has been found that the GFA does not correlate well with the extent of the supercooled liquid region (ΔTx) and is even not related closely to the reduced glass transition temperature Trg.

  Copper(I) complexes with a sterically hindered thiourea, [Cu(dchtu)2X] (dchtu = N,N'-dicyclohexylthiourea; X=Cl 1, Br 2), were synthesized and their crystal structures were determined. Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural orthorhombic, space group P212121. Crystallographic data for 1 : a = 13.1711(13), b = 14.2610(19), c = 15.793(2) Aring, V = 2966.4(6) Aring3, Z = 4. For 2 : a = 13.2628(13), b = 14.3410(19), c = 15.860(2) Aring, V = 3016.5(6) Aring3, Z = 4. The stoichiometry of CuX complexes with thiourea is influenced by substituents on the nitrogens. Copper(I) halides only form bis-adducts with the sterically hindered dchtu ligand even with molar excesses of dchtu due to steric hinderance of the cyclohexyl substituents. In 1 and 2, the Cu(I) is trigonally coordinated by the sulfur atoms of two monodentate N,N'-dicyclohexylthiourea ligands and one halide. The structures of the complexes are stabilized by a system of intermolecular H-bonding.

  Two new uranyl β-diketonate complexes [UO2(DBM)2(DEDPU)] (1) and [UO2(PMBP)2(DEDPU)](CH3C6H5)0.5 (2), (HDBM = dibenzoylmethane, HPMBP = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone, DEDPU = N,N’-diethyl-N,N’-diphenylurea) were synthesized and characterized. The coordination geometries of the uranyl atoms in 1 and 2 are distorted pentagonal bipyramidal, coordinated by one oxygen atom of DBDPU molecule and four oxygen atoms of two chelating DBM molecules in 1 and PMBP molecules in 2.

  Three manganese coordination polymers [Mn(bimb)<sub>2</sub>(NCS)<sub>2</sub>]<sub><i>n</i></sub> (<b>1</b>), [Mn(bimb)<sub>2</sub>(dca)<sub>2</sub>]<sub><i>n</i></sub> (<b>2</b>) and [Mn(bimb)<sub>2</sub>(N<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub>]<sub><i>n</i></sub> (<b>3</b>) (bimb = 1,4-<i>bis</i>(imidazol-1-yl)butane, dca = dicyanamide) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography, IR and thermogravimetric analysis. In <b>1</b> and <b>2</b>, each Mn(II) links two Mn(II) atoms by double bimb ligands and extends to form a one-dimensional double chain structure containing the Mn<sub>2</sub>(bimb)<sub>2</sub> 22-member metallocycle. <b>3</b> constructs a two-dimensional (4,4) network linked by bimb bridges.

  Three new coordination polymers [Co(bimb)2(NCS)2]n (1), lcub[Co(bimb)2(dca)2] · CH3CNrcubn (2) and [Cu(bimb)2(NO3)2]n (3) (bimb = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl)butane, dca = dicyanamide) were synthesized and characterized. In 1, each Co(II) links two Co(II)’s by double bimb ligands and extends to form a one-dimensional chain containing the Co2(bimb)2 22-membered metallocycle. 2 and 3 are two-dimensional (4, 4) networks linked by bimb bridges. The conformations of the bimb ligands in 1, 2 and 3 are analyzed.

  Two dinuclear complexes [M2(EGTB)(NO3)2(DMF)2](NO3)2 · 2DMF (M = Cu, 1; Co, 2) were synthesized and structurally characterized, EGTB is N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis (2-benzimidazolylmethyl)-1,4-diethylene amino glycol ether, and DMF is dimethylformamide. The polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities of 1 and 2 on pyrogallol oxidation have been investigated, showing that the rate constants kcat increase with increases of reaction temperatures and pH.

  A new complex, [Ni(PMFP)2(C2H5OH)2] (HPMFP = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(2-furoyl)-5-pyrazolone), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, and fluorescence spectra, thermal analysis, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Its crystal structure is in an orthorhombic system, space group Pbca with cell parameters: a = 15.2269(14) , b = 9.3399(9) , c = 22.794(2) , and Z = 4, S = 1.019. The Ni lies at an inversion center and has a slightly distorted octahedral coordination environment with four oxygens of the pyrazolone rings in the equatorial plane and two ethanols in axial positions. The compound displays O-H···N and weak C(6)-H(6)···O(4) hydrogen bonds. The fluorescent emission is at 539 nm.

  Two copper coordination polymers [Cu(obtz)(bdc)]n (1) and {[Cu(obtz)(phth)] · 2H2O}n (2) (obtz = 1,2-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, bdc = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate, phth = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) were synthesized and characterized. Both 1 and 2 are 2-D networks constructed via the bridging ligands bdc and phth. The obtz ligands do not extend the dimension (2-D network) but add their thickness, 10.9 Å for 1 and 11.6 Å for 2. Complex 1 further constructs a 3-D network via π-π stacking interactions between the benzene rings of obtz ligands of adjacent 2-D networks. The thermal stabilities have been investigated.

  Four samarium thiostannates, [Sm2(en)6(μ2-OH)2]Sn2S6 (1), [Sm(dien)3]2[(Sn2S6)Cl2] (2a), [Sm(dien)3]2[(Sn2S6)(SH)2] (2b), and [Sm(trien)(tren)(Cl)]2Sn2S6 · en (3) (en = ethylenediamine, dien = diethylenetriamine, trien = triethylenetetraamine, tren = tris(2-aminoethyl)amine), were solvothermally synthesized and characterized. Compounds 1-3 consist of the hexathiostannate anion [Sn2S6]4- and Sm(III) complex cations. In addition, 2a and 2b contain monovalent anions Cl- and SH-, respectively. In 1, the Sm(III) ion forms a binuclear complex [Sm2(en)6(μ2-OH)2]4+, in which Sm(III) is eight coordinate. In 2a, 2b, and 3, Sm(III) ions form mononuclear nine-coordinate complexes. The coordination modes of Sm(III) are influenced by the denticity of ethylene polyamines, and the monovalent OH- and Cl- as well. The complex [Sm(trien)(tren)(Cl)]2+ in 3 is the first example of a lanthanide complex with mixed ethylene polyamine ligands. The optical properties of 1-3 were measured.

Tungsten oxide nanowires (W18O49 NWs) were directly grown on carbon paper by chemical vapor deposition. Well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles, with a size distribution from 2 to 4 nm, were deposited on the surface of W18O49 NWs through a simple reductive process. The resulting Pt/W18O49 NW/carbon paper composites formed a three-dimensional electrode structure. In comparison to conventional Pt/C electrocatalyst, the Pt/W18O49 NW/carbon paper composite exhibited higher electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen reduction reaction and better CO tolerance in a single cell polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell.

  A new iridoid, named torricellate, was isolated from root bark of Torricellia angulata var intermedia, a Chinese folk medicinal plant used to treat bone fracture, tonsillitis and asthma. Its structure was elucidated by NMR, MS, IR and UV, and confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies.

  Magnetic flux leakage testing is widely used to examine ferromagnetic materials. Considering the importance of estimating the size of surface crack in metals, which is used in nuclear power, railway and piping industries, a method based on particle swarm optimisation algorithm is proposed in this article. This approach maps the size of crack to the location of particles. After initialising the locations and velocities of the particle population, it evaluates the fitness value of the individual particle and tracks the optimal one. It then updates the positions and velocities of particles with the previous fitness values and repeats these steps until the best possible result is obtained. The fitness value is obtained by summing the absolute measurement error of the magnetic leakage field intensity of the crack. The results of simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  A pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of an anionic surfactant linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) application on cadmium (Cd) fractions in soils and Cd distribution in different tissues of soybean (Glycine max)plants as well as soil pH. Soil samples were treated with three levels of Cd (0, 5, and 10 mg kg−1) and five levels of LAS (0, 5, 15, 50, and 100 mg L−1). Results indicated that compared to the control soils (no Cd and no LAS treatment), soil pH increased and available Cd decreased in the soil treated with external Cd and watered with LAS solutions. Meanwhile, soil exchangeable Cd and Cd bound to carbonates decreased; Cd bound to amorphous iron and manganese oxides and Cd bound to organic matter increased. In addition, LAS application could reduce enrichment of Cd in soybean plants, resulting in decreased Cd in the soybean plants. Thus, suitable LAS application could decrease bioavailability and mobility of soil Cd.

  The synthesis of lanthanide hydroxo complexes stabilized by a carbon-bridged bis(phenolate) ligand 2,2’-methylene-bis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxo) (MBMP2−) was described, and their reactivity toward phenyl isocyanate was explored. Reactions of (MBMP)Ln(C5H5)(THF)2 with a molar equiv. of water in THF at −78°C afforded the bis(phenolate) lanthanide hydroxides as dimers [{(MBMP)Ln(μ-OH)(THF)2}2] [Ln=Nd (1), Yb (2)] in high yields. Complexes 1 and 2 reacted with phenyl isocyanate in THF, after workup, to give the desired O−H addition products, [(MBMP)Ln(μ-η12-O2CNHPh)(THF)2]2 [Ln=Nd (3), Yb (4)] in excellent isolated yields. These complexes were well characterized, and the molecular structures of complexes 2 to 4 were determined by X-ray crystallography. The ytterbium atom in complex 2 is coordinated to six oxygen atoms to form a distorted octahedral geometry, whereas each metal center in complexes 3 and 4 is seven-coordinated, and the coordination geometry can be best described as a distorted pentagonal bipyramid.

  Cardiac hypertrophy is characterized by electrical remolding with increased risk of arrhythmogenesis. Enhanced abnormal automaticity of ventricular cells contributes critically to hypertrophic arrhythmias. The pacemaker current If, carried by the hyperpolarization-activated channels encoded mainly by the HCN2 and HCN4 genes in the heart, plays an important role in determining cardiac automaticity. Their expressions reportedly increase in hypertrophic and failing hearts, contributing to arrhythmogenesis under these conditions. We performed a study on post-transcriptional regulation of expression of HCN2 and HCN4 genes by microRNAs. We experimentally established HCN2 as a target for repression by the muscle-specific microRNAs miR-1 and miR-133 and established HCN4 as a target for miR-1 only. We unraveled robust increases in HCN2 and HCN4 protein levels in a rat model of left ventricular hypertrophy and in angiotensin II-induced neonatal ventricular hypertrophy. The up-regulation of HCN2/HCN4 was accompanied by pronounced reduction of miR-1/miR-133 levels. Forced expression of miR-1/miR-133 by transfection prevented overexpression of HCN2/HCN4 in hypertrophic cardiomyocytes. The serum-responsive factor protein level was found significantly decreased in hypertrophic hearts, and silencing of this protein by RNA interference resulted in increased levels of miR-1/miR-133 and concomitant increases in HCN2 and HCN4 protein levels. We conclude that down-regulation of miR-1 and miR-133 expression contributes to re-expression of HCN2/HCN4 and thereby the electrical remodeling process in hypertrophic hearts. Our study also sheds new light on the cellular function and pathological role of miR-1/miR-133 in the heart.

  The EEN (extra eleven nineteen) gene is one of the fusion partners of mixed-lineage leukemia, located on chromosome 19p13. Here we cloned two een genes (designated as eena and eenb) in zebrafish, which are assigned to linkage groups 8 and 2, respectively. Whole-mount in situ hybridization assay showed that eena and eenb have overlapping but distinct expression patterns during embryogenesis. Ubiquitous or targeted overexpression of eena, but not eenb, into wild-type or transgenic embryos (green fluorescent protein-labeled myeloid progenitors) induced a significant proliferation and ectopic distribution of myeloid progenitors in the yolk sac. Using a morpholino antisense gene knockdown approach, we showed that the number of myeloid progenitors and their downstream mature myelomonocytic cells was significantly decreased in the eena- deficient embryos. Mechanistically, overexpression of eena selectively stimulated ERK phosphorylation and increased the level of transcription factor c-Fos in vitro and in vivo, whereas eena lacking the Src homology 3 domain completely abolished these effects. Furthermore, a MAPK/ERK kinase (MEK) inhibitor, PD98059, blocked the eena-induced cell proliferation and activation of ERK signaling. The results suggest that eena plays an important role in the development of the myeloid cell through activation of the ERK pathway and may provide a valuable reference for future studies of the role of EEN in leukemogenesis.
