  Based on morphologic traits including 18 traits of leaf and fruit, the genetic relationships among Oakleaf loquat (E. prinoides), Daduhe loquat (E. prinoides var. dadunensis) and Common loquat (E. japonica) were investigated in this study. The results showed that Oakleaf loquat, Daduhe loquat and Common loquat displayed very significant differences. Many traits of Daduhe loquat were between Oakleaf loquat and Common loquat and some of the other traits were lean to Oakleaf loquat while some were lean to Common loquat. The results of comparative analysis and cluster analysis support that Daduhe loquat was hybrid of Oakleaf loquat and Common loquat.

  Three cultivars of loquat including Longquan1, Dawuxing, Zaozhong6 were used to study the effects of different pre-treatments on callus induction from anther. The results showed that there were no anther callus induction without any pre-treatment (CK), the anther callus induction rate of bud with pre-treatments was significantly increased. In all the pre-treatments, low temperature (4°C) was the best for anther callus induction and followed by heat shock, high osmotic pressure and centrifugation; 48 h low temperature (4°C) pre-treatment was beneficial as it significantly increased the induction rate of callus and callus induction rate changed with cultivars, reaching the apex of 54.67, 46.33 and 72.00% for cv. Longquan1, Dawuxing and Zaozhong6, respectively.

  This study investigated the relationship between styles and locules through observation seed set under manual control-pollination in loquat (Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl.). After hand-pollination with removal of 4 styles (only 1 style left), accordingly there are seeds only in one locule per fruit with 2 types of seed set patterns: 76.67% fruit had 2 normal seeds which are in accord with pattern I; 23.33% had only 1 normal seed but the other one degenerated which are in accord with pattern II. While all the ovules in other 4 lobules are unfertilized and in wilts; seed degradation rate is 11.67%.
