  Cysticercosis caused by Taenia solium metacestodes is a worldwide public health problem. Important progress in the development of effective and practical vaccines against this disease has been made. In this study, the promising T. solium oncospheral vaccine candidate named TSOL18 antigen was produced in a 5-liter fermentor. During the process of fermentation, the pH of the culture was always kept below 5.0, and in order to prevent foaming, an antifoam agent was added. In addition, the oxygen content of the culture was constantly kept at >50% in our experiment. A high level of the glycosylated protein (2.5 g/liter) was obtained, and the protein was easily purified by gel chromatography. Vaccination trials showed that the recombinant TSOL18 antigen induced 94 and 100% reductions in metacestode burdens in vaccinated pigs, obviously higher than the 89% reduction in pigs immunized with cysticercus crude extracts in trial 1. These are very promising results in the development of an efficient tool to control cysticercosis in Asia.

  Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) is an acute, highly contagious and economically important viral disease of small ruminants, especially goats and sheep. Given the contagious nature of the disease, speed of diagnosis is essential in order to quarantine infected animals and initiate appropriate prophylactic measures. Here researchers reported the distribution of PPRV RNA in various tissues of goats experimentally infected subcutaneously with a vaccine virus (Nigeria 75/1) strain in relation to the time post inoculation (pi) by real-time PCR (rt RT-PCR) based on TaqMan® and was quantified as a fold change (2-ΔΔCt values) compared with that of blood at 3 dpi. PPRV levels at 3, 5 and 28 dpi were higher than those at the other time points, especially at 5 dpi. The PPRV level in thymus, tonsil, hilar lymph node and turbinate bone was higher than that of other tissues. The result suggested that the distribution of PPRV in goats were similar to that of viral antigens and rt RT-PCR was useful for the detection of PPRV in field samples. The higher levels of RNA detected at 28 dpi may suggest some level of persistent infection. Furthermore, it was shown that blood sample was the most valuable diagnostic material for use in an epidemic situation.

  The yak (Bos grunniens) is an important grazing livestock in Western of China. In this study, the full length of yIFN-a1 gene was cloned then the recombinant yIFN-a1 was expressed in yeast expression system. In vitro bioactivity of IFN-α1 was determined by inhabition infection BHK cell against Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV). The results showed that cDNA contains an Open Reading Frame (ORF) of 570 base pairs encoding a protein of 189 amino acid (aa) precursor with a signal peptide of 23 aa. The homology of the yIFN-a1 was up to 65.3~94.4% with other species at the amino acid levels. The recombinant yIFN-a1 was recognized in Western blot by mAb against human IFN-α1. The activity unit of the purified recombinant yIFN- a1 protein was 1.16×105 IU mg-1 by against Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) antiviral assay in vitro. This made a basis for the development of anti-virus medicine of yak in the future.

  Bibliometric methods were used to analyze publications from the Web of Science on Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in the past 18 years. Results showed that although PPR is now a widespread and serious disease in many developing countries, the total number of articles on PPR is only 342. The research indicates that more basic studies should be done on the PPR and differentiating infected from vaccinated animals vaccines which would be important to prevent the disease. Moreover, collaborations among authors, institutions and countries as well as good financial support are the keys to control or even eradicate PPR.

  The susceptibilities of 13 recent field isolates of Mycoplasma bovis from the Ningxia province of China to 13 antimicrobial agents were detected using a microbroth dilution method. The rates of resistance to gentamicin, tilmicosin, erythromycin, lincomycin were 8/13, 7/13, 12/13 and 8/13, respectively according to the CLSI resistance breakpoint. Less than 50% of strains were resistance to ciprofloxacin, doxycycline and florfenicol with the resistance rates of 4/13 and 3/13, respectively. The lower resistance rates were observed for tiamulin (0/13), spectinomycin (1/13), enrofloxacin (2/13) and ofloxacin (2/13) suggesting the higher susceptibility of tiamulin, spectinomycin, enrofloxacin and ofloxacin to the M. bovis.
