  Several triester derivatives with enhanced physicochemical and tribological properties were obtained from Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) through the following chemical modifications successively, transesterification of WCO, epoxidation of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) and oxirane ring opening with anhydrides. Effect of the chain length increase of anhydrides on the low temperature fluid, viscometric properties and oxidation stability of triester derivatives were studied using pour point tester, viscometer and Pressurized Differential Scanning Calorimetry (PDSC), respectively. The tribological properties of triester derivatives were evaluated on a four-ball tribotester and the morphology of worn surfaces of steel balls was investigated by SEM. All triester derivatives showed better physicochemical properties, anti-wear ability and higher load-carrying capacity compared to 250BS, a representative of mineral oils. The three-step chemical modifications of the WCO re-utilization proposed in this study provide a feasible method to obtain high value-added and eco-friendly products, i.e., biolubricants.

  Background: Hepatocytes damage is sometimes closely related to oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species which are the major contributors to lipopolysaccharide-induced liver injury. Emodin, the active natural product in rhubarb of hydroxyanthraquinone skeleton, has been reported of protective activity to liver tissue, whose mechanism is generally thought of antioxidation based on chemical reaction or indirect evidence. There is no visualized evidence proved the reactive oxygen species scavenging effect of emodin in vivo. Materials and Methods: The dynamic reactive oxygen species luminescent signal in mice injured by bacillus calmette guerin and lipopolysaccharide was monitored by using the optical molecular imaging approach. Results: The elevations of serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate transaminase activities in bacillus calmette guerin/lipopolysaccharide-injured mice were reversed by emodin, indicating the protection of emodin to hepatocytes. And emodin significantly and dose-dependently attenuated the reactive oxygen species luminescent signal elicited by bacillus calmette guerin/lipopolysaccharide, indicating visually the in vivo reactive oxygen species scavenging effect of emodin. In addition, emodin significantly and dose-dependently elevated the activity of superoxide dismutase, content of reduced glutathione and total antioxidant capacity and meanwhile decreased the contents of hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxides and malondialdehyde in livers of bacillus calmette guerin/lipopolysaccharide-injured mice. It could be attributed to the anti-oxidative effect of emodin which helps to maintain the reactive oxygen species balance in vivo. Conclusion: Emodin can protect liver against bacillus calmette guerin/lipopolysaccharide-induced injury and the mechanism includes reactive oxygen species scavenging effect and anti-lipid peroxidation at least.

  The current trial with 4x2 factorial arrangement was carried out to determine the effects of dietary arginine and methionine levels on broiler carcass traits and meat quality. Four dietary levels of arginine were 80, 100, 120 and 140% of NRC recommendation and dietary levels of methionine were 100 and 120% of NRC recommendation. On day 42 of age, chickens from each group were slaughtered to evaluate carcass traits, meat quality and muscle characteristics. Arginine supplementation significantly improved muscle growth (pL<0.01), especially breast muscle growth while methionine showed no effect. For meat quality, arginine deficient diet resulted in decreased lightness (L* value) while methionine supplementation increased yellowness (b* value). Except for the arginine deficient group, shear force values were decreased with arginine supplementation. Total collagen was not affected by the levels of arginine and methionine while heat-soluble collagen was increased with arginine (pL<0.05) and methionine supplementation (p<0.05). The result of the present study indicated that dietary arginine and methionine could affect collagen property and myoglobin status in the final formation of meat characteristic and a level of dietary arginine up to 120% of the recommendation by NRC should be suggested for better lean meat deposition and meat tenderness.

  Avian Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) is an avian coronavirus. The Nucleocapsid (N) protein of IBV (IBV-N) is an important structural and functional protein and plays an essential role throughout the virus life cycle. Some cellular proteins may be involved in these complicated processes, little is known about virus host interactions. In this study, host cell proteins that interact with N protein were sought by screening a chicken lung cDNA library using a yeast two-hybrid system assay. IBV-N was shown to interact specifically with chicken Ubiquitin-Conjugating enzyme 9 (cUBC9) which belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family and is an important enzyme in the sumoylation system. Furthermore, the interaction between IBV-N and cUBC9 was confirmed by coimmunoprecipitation. The results of mapping the cUBC9 binding region of IBV-N indicated that N151-230 fragment of IBV-N is responsible for the majority of the binding to cUBC9. This virus-host protein interaction may provide insights into the function of IBV-N and facilitate rational targeting of the viral nucleocapsid protein for the development of structure-based vaccines and antiviral compounds.

  In view of the existing problems in the integration and dynamic update of resource database, service chain is introduced into the update of resource database, with an aim to improve the quality of data in resource database and ensure the real-time property of database. Meanwhile, this intends to maintain the correlation of business to enhance the information value of resource data, in order to provide the foundation and supporting information for effective supervision and finer management of resources. This paper particularly elaborates on the connotations and main ideas of dynamic data update technology based on service chain and puts forward four key techniques to realize the dynamic update of resource databases, namely, change information retrieval based on data interception technology, data update service chain definition based on business rules, intelligent organization and call of service chain, monitoring and tracking of update process based on data quality. In the end, this paper presents a comprehensive application demonstration in Chengdu City, builds a central database of land and resources in Chengdu and connects each business database to the central database, so as to realize dynamic linkage update between the business database of land and resources and the central database in Chengdu to support and serve all the work of land and resources management of Chengdu in an all-round way.
