  Fifteen exotic groundnut genotypes collected from ICRISAT along with a local check (Dhaka-1) were used to study their performance, genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance of yield and yield contributing characters. Significant variations were observed for all the characters in all the genotypes used in the experiment. Higher phenotypic coefficients of variations were observed for plant height, primary branches per plant, pods per plant, harvest index and pod yield plant 1. Characters like plant height, pods per plant, 100-pods weight, shelling percentage, harvest index and pod yield per plant showed high heritability. Considerable high genetic advances in percentage of mean were found for plant height, pods per plant, harvest index and pod yield per plant.

  Vigorously growing root tips, basal discs and leaf discs of three garlic strains (G-101, G- 102, G-103) were used as explants. The explants were collected from cloves germinated in a basal medium. Different combinations and concentrations of growth regulators like 2, 4-D and BAP were used in MS medium to observe the callus induction, proliferation, organogenesis and to produce regenerate plantlets under in vitro condition. The highest callusing was recorded at the highest concentration of 2, 4-D (2.0 mg l-1) + BAP (1.0 mg l-1) in MS medium for G-103 (80%). The other two strains (G-101, G-102) showed 70 and 75% callusing ability respectively. Highest performance in the proliferation of calli were found at MS+2,4-D (2.0 mg l-1) +BAP (0.5 mg l-1) in G-103 (90%). Maximum number of regenerated plantlets were obtained at MS + NAA (2.0 mg l-1) + BAP (1.0 mg l-1) in all the strains (35%). Plantlets thus, obtained were successfully transferred to the potted soil and subsequently to the field. The survival rate was 40-60% in all the cases.

  Thirty one dry bean genotypes were used to study their performance, genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance of yield and yield contributing characters viz., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of pods plant ha-1 , pod length, number of seeds plant ha-1 , 20 seed weight. Significant variations were observed for all the characters in all the genotypes used in the experiment. Highest and genotypic and phenotypic variations were observed for days to maturity and pod length, respectively. All the characters showed high heritability with high genetic advance. Grain yield was found to be positively correlated with number of pods plant ha-1 , pod length, number of seeds plant ha-1 and 20 seed weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that all the pod and seed characters showed positive and significant direct effects on seed yield.

  Garlic (Allium sativum) root tips were induced to regenerate shoots through callus culture and somatic embryogenesis to obtain plantlets. The experiment was designed to investigate the regeneration potentiality of two garlic verities and also to develop an efficient protocol for regeneration of garlic via callus culture. Higher percentage of callus was initiated from the combination of 5 mg l ha-1 Kinetin and 1.5 mg l ha-1 2,4-D. Embryogenic callus produced higher number of shoots in MS medium supplemented with 10 BAP. Rooting of individual shoots was induced after transfer to medium without growth regulator. The plantlets were established in the soil after acclimization. Cultivar differences in regeneration from root tips were observed.
