  Dry leaf of Hyptis suaveolens Poit was extracted with water and methanol and the effect on seed germination and seedling growth were determined in Pennisetum setosum and Mimosa invisa. The water extract significantly reduced P. setosum seed germination and strongly inhibited shoot and root lengths of both P. setosum and M. invisa. The inhibition percentages increased with the increasing of dry leaf ratios of the extracts. Shoot growth of P. setosum and M. invisa seedling was less sensitive to the extract than root growth was. The lower leaf ratios extracts (1:80 and 1:40) did not reduce shoot length of both weeds, in contrast, the 1:80 ratio extract promoted P. setosum shoot length 16.97% of untreated control. In this study, P. setosum was more susceptible to H. sauveolens leaf water extract than M. invisa. The methanol extraxts of H. suaveolens leaf significantly inhibited seed germination and seedling growth of both P. setosum and M. invisa and the inhibitory effects were higher than those of the water extracts. This might indicate solubility of the allelochemicals in H. suaveolens leaf better in methanol than in water. It is interesting to study further on allelopathy of this plant for the practical use in agricultural pest management.

  Cytogenetic studies of three gibbon species using conventional banding patterns were investigated showing an identical number of 44 diploid chromosomes. They are assumed to have common evolutionary relationships. For in depth study, molecular markers were assessed using the Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) method. With seven successful primer combinations, a total of 1669 scorable bands were generated. The resulting bands were used for dendrogram construction. From the dendrogram, the individuals of Hylobates lar are closely related to H. agilis more than H. pileatus with a bootstrap value of 78%. Averages of inter-specific genetic similarity values among all gibbon species studied are 67.15% (between H. lar and H. pileatus) to 71.03% (between H. lar and H. agilis). In summary three gibbon species show genetic stability within a species. The development of specific molecular markers of a species is beneficial for genetic differentiation of this group of primates.

  Nepenthes species are well known for their ornamentally attractive pitchers. The species diversity was randomly surveyed in some conservation areas of Thailand and three species were found, namely N. gracilis Korth., N. mirabilis Druce. and N. smilesii Hemsl. Young plants as unknown species from Chatuchak market were added in plant sampled set. Thirty two Inter Simple Sequence Repeat (ISSR) primers were screened and 13 successful primers were used to produce DNA banding patterns for constructing a dendrogram. The dendrogram is potentially power tool to identify unknown species from Chatuchak market, differentiate species population, population by geographical areas and sex determination. The geographical area of N. mirabilis was specified to Southern and Northeastern regions and finally, subdivided into exact areas according to province. Male and female plants of N. gracilis at Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary and N. mirabilis at Bung Khonglong non-hunting area were determined. Two unknown species from Chatuchak market were analyzed to be N. mirabilis with the genetic similarities (S) 77.2 to 84.7. Be more sex specific in all sample studied, 37 Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primers were investigated. The result shows that only one RAPD primer show high resolution results at about 750 bp specific male-related marker.

  Cytogenetic studies of five langur species using conventional banding pattern were investigated. All species studied have an identical number of 44 diploid chromosomes, they are assumed to have common evolutionary relationships. For in depth study, molecular markers were assessed using the Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) method. With seven successful primer combinations, a total of 1043 scorable bands were generated. The percentage of polymorphic bands for each primer ranged from 48.60 to 94.12%. The resulting bands were used for dendrogram construction. From the dendrogram, the individuals of Trachypithecus species are grouped into two major clusters, T. phayrei is clustered with T. obscurus, while T. cristatus is clustered with T. francoisi. The bootstrap value between two groups is 94%. The other cluster, Presbytis femoralis is separated from the Trachypithecus species with a bootstrap value of 94%. Averages of inter-specific genetic similarity values among all langur species studied are 70.16% (between T. obscurus and P. femoralis) to 88.12% (between T. phayrei and T. obscurus). In summary T. phayrei might be a subspecies of T. obscurus. The development of specific molecular markers of a species is beneficial for genetic differentiation of this group of primates.

  Nepenthes gracilis Korth. is a member of carnivorous plants in family Nepenthaceae. The plants have beautiful and economically important pitchers. It is interesting to study the protein(s) correlated with the pitcher. Crude proteins were extracted from leaf, leaf with developing pitcher and developed pitcher of the same plant and analyzed by Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Two protein bands with molecular weights of 42.7 and 38 kDa were obtained from young leaf and leaf with developing pitcher, respectively. The 42.7 kDa protein was identified as phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), but the 38 kDa band is an unknown protein. Both proteins were differentially expressed in each developing stage of the pitcher, thus may be powerful candidates play role in development pathway of leaf and pitcher.

  This research aimed to develop and investigate the effectiveness of three hands-on practical on weed control using plant extracts for undergraduates, compare gains of students science process skills between before and after learning with the practical and investigate students preferences towards learning with the practical. The subjects, sampled by using the purposive method were 30 undergraduates from the Department of Biology, Srinakharinwirot University. The research tools consisted of three hands on practicals of the use plant extracts to control the weeds for undergraduates, a 40 multiple choice questions of science process skills with 4 options and a thirty items of 5-rating Likert preferences towards learning with the practicals. The data were analyzed by the descriptive statistics and t-test for independent samples. The findings indicated students science process skills after learning with the practical had significantly higher than those before learning with the practical (p>0.05). Students preferences towards learning with the hands on practical were at the high level of 4.21±0.34. Therefore, this hands on practicals can assist students to understand the plant sciences, particularly the plant extract use for weed control.

  This research aims to study knowledge, attitude, behavioral and cholinesterase level on pesticides of agriculturist with different sex, age, educational level and frequency of pesticide use. Samples were 385 agriculturists of Maung, Banphotpisai and Koaleaw district in Nakhon Sawan province obtained by the simple random sampling technique. The instruments used for the study included; 20 items of knowledge test, 20 items scale on attitude and 24 items scale on behavior about pesticides use and reactive paper. The collected data were analyzed by using percentage; mean, Standard Deviation (SD) and F-test (One-way MANOVA) were employed for testing hypotheses. The research results revealed that most of samples are female (62.6%), age between 40-59 years old (62.9%), finished on elementary education (77.9%), period of time in earning a living by grow the jasmine <5 years (40.8%) used methomyl for insecticide (48.3%) used furadan for fungicide (45.5%) used bipyridylium for Herbicides (49.1%) and more frequently use pesticides about 2 times week-1 (58.9%). Agriculturist with different age, educational level and frequency of pesticide use did show knowledge, attitude and behavioral and cholinesterase level pesticide differently (p<0.05) but agriculturist with different sex did not show knowledge, attitude and behavioral and cholinesterase level pesticide differently (p>0.05).

  Participation learning process of pesticides on agriculturist in Nakhon Sawan province. The aim is to test and evaluate the learning process involved in the use of chemical pesticides by Agriculturist. Experimental group as growers of of jasmine, Moo 5, Tambon Khao Din Kao Liao district Nakhon Sawan province, 30 people and the control group as growers of jasmine, Moo 1, Tambon Khao Din Kao Liao district Nakhon Sawan province, 30 were obtained by simple random sampling. The instruments used in research on the level of knowledge of the 20 items measure the attitudes of 20 items and 24 items on behavioral scaling test. The collected data were analyzed by using percentage; mean, Standard Deviation (SD) and t-test (Paired t-test) were employed for testing hypotheses. The research results that sample is the female (63.3%) age 40-59 years (53.3%), elementary education (86.7%) period of time in earning a living grow the jasmine, >10 years (56.7%), used lannate for insecticide (86.7%), used furadan for fungus (60.0%), used grammoxone for herbicides (43.3%) and frequency of pesticides use since 2 time week-1 (50.0%), the time to spray chemical pesticides. Each time, it is ≤1 h (63.3%) and the enzyme cholinesterase at risk (50.0%). Experiment with knowledge, attitudes and behavior in the use of chemical pesticides is higher than the control group statistically significant at the 0.05 level and the amount of the enzyme cholinesterase in the blood higher than the control group had not significant statistical level of 0.05.
