  Reference movement provided for an exoskeleton prosthesis that assists patients in walking is usually given based on statistical gait data of healthy individuals. However, it is easy to cause misidentification of gait’s phase, discontinuity of reference movement and serious asymmetry of two limbs. This study proposes a method to give a reference movement for impaired knee based on biomechanical information of the contra-lateral healthy limb. This can enhance movement symmetry of two limbs. Different phases are identified according to the statuses (peak, valley and zero values, increasing or decreasing) of knee angle, angular velocity, forefoot reaction force and heel reaction force of the healthy limb. The specific statuses rather than numerical values are favourable to enhance accuracy of phase identification and continuity of reference movement. Sine or cosine function is used to express motion trajectory of knee approximately and the period and peak value of the output function can be regulated according to the measured knee angles of the healthy limb. Thus, the reference movement can match that of the healthy knee in real-time even though walking pace and stride length are changed. Verification experiment was performed on four subjects and the results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method.

  A bandwidth-controllable reflective gel has been investigated from photo- and thermally-induced processes. Due to the pitch of cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) composite increasing as the temperature rises, the CLC with short pitch is frozen by UV-curing the polymer network at low temperature and the CLC with long pitch is fixed by heat curing the polymer network at high temperature. A non-uniform pitch distribution of CLCs forms in the gel when temperature becomes low. It is demonstrated that the memory effect of the polymer network is an important mechanism for the resulting gel.

  A sulfur sensor Mo|Mo, Mo2S3|ZrS2 + MgS|ZrO2(MgO)|ZrS2 + MgS|[S]Fe|Mo was developed and tested in carbon-saturated liquid iron. The auxiliary electrode was ZrS2 + MgS, which was formed on the surface of ZrO2(MgO) electrolyte by: ZrO2(MgO)(s) + 3H2S(g) = ZrS2(s) + MgS(s) + 3H2O(g). The results indicate that the auxiliary electrode is dense, and has a good adhesion to the solid electrolyte. ZrS2 and MgS are stable in the carbon-saturated liquid iron where the aO < 1.25 x 10–7 at 1550 K and aO < 2.10 x 10–7 at 1600 K. The variations of the EMF versus [wt% S] can be obtained as follows:

In this paper, estimation of carrier frequency offset (CFO) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with I/Q imbalance is studied. By exploiting the mirror spectrum induced by I/Q imbalance, we proposed a novel algorithm for blind CFO estimation without training sequences. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing one, which is well accepted as a guideline of blind CFO estimation algorithms in OFDM systems.
