  Body weight and body linear measurement (Diagonal body length, Height-at-withers, sac pelvic width, Heart girth) of 259 West African Dwarf (WAD) goats (both sexes) in three age groups (Kid, yearling and Adult) were measured. The least square means for body weight were 6.40, 10.5 and 18.9 kg for kid, yearling and Adult respectively. Means of other body linear measurements also vary within each age group. The variables measured vary positively with age of the animals and the correlations of body weight with diagonal body length, Height at whither, sac-pelvic width and heart girth were high, positive and significant (p<0.01). There is sexual dimorphism in body weight and other body linear measurements in favour of the female goats. The correlation matrix of each of the variable or combination could be used in predicting live weight of the animals.

  The effects of dietary dry seed powder of G. kola (Bitter cola) at inclusion levels of (O, 10, 20, 30 and 40g per kg of feed), on heamatological parameters body weights and survival rate of pullets chicks were investigated in a study that lasted eight weeks. 250- day old pullet chicks were randomly allocated to five treatment groups. A treatment contained two replicates of 25 birds each. Results showed that G. Kola (Bitter Cola) dry seed powder inclusion in the diet improved weight gain in groups B, C, D and E.This compared favourable with that of the control group A. Weight gain for group E fed 40 g kg 1 feed dry seed powder of bitter cola was lowest when compared to other groups. Highest weight gain was however recorded for the group D birds (30 g kg 1 feed) dry seed power of bitter cola. For the period the experiment lasted, results in this study showed that the higher the level of inclusion of dry powered seed of Bitter Kola in the diet the lower the mortality rate recorded. This supports the antimicrobial activity of Garcinia Kola, as already documented in literatures. Heamatological (parameters such as Pack Cell Volume (PCV), Heamoglobin concentration (Hb), Red Blood Cells (RBC), Mean Corpuscular Heamoglobin MCH, Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV), for test groups B, C, D and E were not significantly different from that of the control group A. However there was a significant (p<0.05) proliferation of the White Blood Cells (WBC), specifically the lymphocytes in this study. This probably explains the antimicrobial effect of Garcinia cola seeds, in views of the major role that the lymphocytes assume in the immune defense mechanism of the body, in both man and animals.

  The effect of different inclusion levels of bitter kola (Garcinia kola) dry seeds powder on feed intake, body weight gain/week, feed efficiency/ week and carcass characteristics of broiler chicks from day old to 4 weeks were studied. 200 broiler chicks of Anak strain were assigned to 5 groups in which each group contained 40 birds 0% (w/w), 2.5% (w/w), 5% (w/w), 7.5% (w/w) and 10% (w/w) dry seed powder of G. kola levels were included in the groups, respectively. Feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency were significantly (p<0.05) different. Feed efficiency is highest in 0, 2.5% and lowest in 5 and 7.5% inclusion levels. Absence of mortality was recorded which may be due to the autimicrobial effects of G. kola dry pounder seed inclusion in the diets.

  The effects of different inclusion levels of Garcinia kola on performance and egg quality parameters of layers were investigated for 8 weeks. A total of 40 Issa brown point-of-lay birds at 20 weeks of age were assigned randomly into 5 treatments, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 with 8 birds/treatment and 4 birds/replicate. Birds on each treatment were fed different diets containing Garcinia kola at 0 g/1000 g, 10 g/1000 g, 20 g/1000 g, 40 g/1000 g and 80 g/1000 g/kg weight of feed. The control diets did not contain Gracinia kola. The trial lasted for 8 weeks. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in egg weight, yolk weight, yolk index, yolk length, yolk colour, yolk albumen ratio, shell weight, shell thickness and Haugh unit of the eggs. There were significant differences (p<0.05) in performances, albumen weight and yolk height. This study showed that Garcinia kola did not pose any deleterious effects to the birds even at 80 g/1000 g/kg inclusion level but performance and egg quality were best at 10 g/1000 g/kg of dietary inclusion.
