The objective of the study was to evaluate and compare the efficiency of glucomannan extracted from Amorphophallus oncophyllus (GRE) with commercial aflatoxin binder glucomannan yeast product (GYP) in broiler chicken fed aflatoxin contaminated feed. A total of 63 one day old chicks were assigned to 9 equal groups according to dietary treatments: A (basal feed), B (basal feed+aflatoxin 50 μg/kg), C (basal feed+aflatoxin 2 mg/kg), D (basal feed+aflatoxin 50 μg/kg+GYP 1 g/kg), E (basal feed+aflatoxin 50 μg/kg+GRE 1 g/kg), F (basal feed+aflatoxin 50 μg/kg+GRE 2 g/kg), G (basal feed+aflatoxin 2 mg/kg+GYP 1 g/kg), H (basal feed+aflatoxin 2 mg/kg+GRE 1 g/kg) and I (basal feed+aflatoxin 2 mg/kg+GRE 2 g/kg). The body weight decreased significantly (p<0.05) with the inclusion of aflotoxins in the diet at 2 mg/kg diet. Both GYP and GRE were found almost equally effective in combating the negative impact by improving the body weights. Feed intake and FCR of birds fed basal diet with aflatoxin at 2 mg/kg decreased significantly (p<0.05) when compared to the control. Supplementation of both GYP and GRE improved the feed intake and FCR of broiler chicken. Aflatoxins at 2 mg/kg (group C) significantly (p<0.05) decreased PCV but not at 50 μg/kg level. GYP and GRE supplementation helped to overcome the negative effect of aflatoxin by increasing PCV compared to group C. There was no significant (p>0.05) effect on Hb, MCHC and glucose levels among various treatment groups. The weight of liver varied significantly (p<0.05) among the treatment groups but no change in heart, spleen and kidney weights were observed. The highest increase in the relative weight of liver was seen in the group fed aflatoxins at 2 mg/kg level. Supplementation GYP and GRE helped in reducing the liver enlargement effect of aflatoxins. In conclusion, GRE proved to be an effective alternative to GYP particularly at the rate of 2 mg/kg in providing protection against aflatoxin contaminated feed in broiler chicken.

In this study, researchers consider random disruption risks in designing a reliable distribution network model. Researchers consider two types’ distribution centers, one that is unreliable and another that is reliable. Researchers develop the three echelon of logistic model considering manufacturing plant, distribution centers and customers. Researchers consider the distribution centers are subject to probability of disruption. If distribution centers fail, customer may assign to other reliable distribution centers and incur excessive transportation cost, handling cost and opening cost of facility. Researchers consider the case where facilities are subject to probability failure. If facilities fail, customer may assign to other facilities and incur excessive transportation cost and opening cost of the reliable facility. Researchers formulate this as a mixed integer programming model and determine optimal facility location, as well as customer assignment strategies, allowing the facilities to fail under disruption probabilities consideration. The goal is to minimize the sum of initial opening cost of distribution center, transportation cost from manufacturing plant, handling cost at distribution centers and expected customer transportation cost under primary and backup assignment.

This study aimed at three objectives. The first was to obtain empirical data about the implementation of character building education model in Sinjai. The second was to create a valid and practical model of character building education based on school culture. The third was to create an effective model of character building education based on school culture. This study was designed through the model of ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). In this study instruments and model devices was well developed to obtain valid, practical and effective learning model. This study created model books, handbook for teachers and learners. There were some results in this study. At the preliminary study of analysis revealed that the character building education model has not been implemented in a comprehensive manner; the environmental situation and the school culture to support the implementation of character building education model has not been fulfilled overall and the student’s characters in general were low. The next was the model of character building education based on school fulfilled the criteria of validity and practicality. It was indicated as valid because the teacher’s responses on the implementation of the learning model were categorized as very good. The last was this study showed that the model of character building education based on school culture was effective because the student’s positive responses and the model developed student’s character.

The existence of an indigenous institution always associated with local people entities, generally, located in rural areas or inland. The traditional people are a term that is attached to inland because almost all of their daily life using local resources and its simple nature. Its people’s livelihood is still much dependent on agricultural land, plantations and forest products. In this context, indigenous institutions are present as an institution that guarantees all kinds of good relations between them, between them and the environment and between them and God to keep it running in harmony. This study intends to describe the existence of the indigenous institution as a special community in the inland areas as ‘Tau Appa” in District Maiwa. To achieve this, this exploratory research conducted by interview and documentation study. Interviews conducted with local community leaders and local people. Based on an analysis of the data, the research results are: indigenous institutions “Tau Appa” is a local manifestation of the trust of ‘To Manurung’ or God. Indigenous institution “Tau Appa” is present to maintain the harmonization of local community life. Based on the research results, it can be concluded the following: first; indigenous institution is essential to people’s life or the existence of local communities, second because of the indigenous institutions serve as a catalyst harmony between man and the environment and creator or God.

Consumption is broader than just physiological factors, people developing consumption patterns is also reflecting the sociological dynamics including diet. Diet reflects a social activity because in it each group tries to introduce to the public its distinctive diet including the vegetarian community in Makassar. The research raises the phenomenon of social movements of vegetarian community in Makassar. This research uses a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach constructivist paradigm. The results showed that the forms of social movements by the vegetarian community Makassar is a reformative social movement with educational strategies, strategies for creating and strengthening institutional networks. The findings of this study are: a social movement will be successful depends on a good understanding of its members about the community value system, a solid fanaticism of members, the mobilization of all resources optimally and the support of strategic partners. Theoretical implications of this study is an extension of the social movement theory. The practical implications of this research are to provide direction for the social movement that managed to strengthen the three elements namely to increase the capacity of members, strengthen the organization and build a network of strategic.
