Acetylsalicylic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Urinary excretion of ASA (as free salicylic acid) was investigated in twelve healthy male volunteers after an oral administration of 600 mg dose. Urine samples were collected upto 10 h. The concentration of drug was determined colorimetrically and mean ±SE value in urine was found to be 37.55±0.418 μg mL–1. The values for diuresis and rate of excretion was 0.028±0.006 mL min–1 kg–1 and 0.849±0.226 μg min–1 kg–1. The amount of free SA excreted was 5.40±1.15 mg. The % dose excreted was 0.92±0.19%. Cumulative amount and % cumulative dose excreted was found to be 17.74±2.91 mg and 5.47±0.78%. There is slight variations in urinary excretion data when compared with foreign investigated values.

The pharmacokinetics of acetylsalicylic acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, was studied in twelve healthy young females after oral administration of 600 mg aspirin. Blood samples were collected at pre-determined time intervals. The concentration of aspirin as free salicylic acid was analyzed colorimetrially at 530 nm and mean ±SE value in blood was found to be 30.33±0.63 μg mL–1. Individual pharmacokinetic parameters were estimated by using two compartment open model. Mean±SE values were found to be Cmax 44.54±0.46 mg L–1, tmax 1.87±0.05h, t1/2α 1.17±0.25 h, Ka 0.85±1.12 h–1, AUC 275±2.73 L–1, Vd 10.90±0.76 L, t1/2β 4.69±0.55 h and TBC 1.68±0.06 L h–1. ASA values established in this study were in agreement with those reported by other authors.
