  The present study is an attempt to understand the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of iron formations especially, the ferried group of elements and their significance in the origin to selected iron formations of northern districts of Tamil Nadu. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and ore microscopic investigation reveals that, the banded magnetite quartzite samples consist of magnetite and quartz as major minerals with hematite, grunerite, hornblende, hypersthene, goethite and chlorite as accessory minerals. About 36 magnetite quartzite samples were analyzed for the ferride group of elements of study regions. The results of chemical analyses of ferride group elements like Mn, Ni, Ti, Co, Cr and V in the iron formations of different regions are presented and interpreted. Lower concentration of these elements in the iron formations indicate that source of materials derived from weathering of landmasses. Further enrichment of Ti and Cr compared to other elements suggest the BIF’s are of metasedimentary in origin.

  This study deals with design of Proportional + Integral (PI) controller, GA based controller for a non-linear liquid spherical tank system. Level control of a spherical tank is a complex issue because of the non-linear nature of the tank. For each stable operating point, a first order process with Time Delay Model was identified using process Reaction Curve Method. The need for improved performance of the process has led to the development of the optimal controllers. GA is an Evolutionary algorithm that is proposed in this aspect. The performance of GA based controllers is compared with conventional controller tuned using Ziegler-Nicholas (Z-N) Method. The comparison is done based on rise time, settling time, overshoot and it was found that the GA based controller is better suited for this process.

  In this study, a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) based technique proposed for solar power generation using boost inverter. A low dc voltage of photovoltaic array are boosted and inverted into a 220 Vrms ac voltage at a fundamental frequency in a single stage. A closed loop FLC technique is proposed to keep the output voltage constant barring various irradiation conditions. Generally, the sliding mode control and feedback control techniques were used for controlling the output of the boost inverter but it involves more complex control theory. The main objective is to reduce the more power stages for converting dc power in to ac power of a Standalone Solar Power Generation System consisting of a Photovoltaic (PV) panel and a boost inverter under various temperature and irradiation conditions. Hence, the proposed control technique is keep constant output voltage with variable irradiations. Therefore the proposed Solar Power Generation System has more desirable features such as low cost and minimum number of switches. The Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) generated by the proposed configuration is quite reasonable. The complete system is modeled using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
