  An experiment was conducted in nine earthen ponds each of 0.2 hector. Hatchery produced post larva (PL) of Penaeus monodon (1.14 cm, 0.005 g each) were stocked @ 10000, 12500 and 15000/ha in the treatment T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Brackishwater finfish species, such as, Liza persia, Mugil cephalus and Rhinomugil corsula of initial average length 4.62, 4.22, 3.94 cm respectively and weight 1.41, 1.22, 0.63g respectively, were collected from local rivers and stocked at invariable rates of 8000, 1000 and 2000 individuals/ha in all the treatments. The stocking of finfish was performed during May to mid October. Country produced commercial feed was applied twice a day @ 5-3% of the estimated crop and culture period was continued up to 195 days. The final mean weight of P. monodon at harvest was 38.81, 32.79 and 37.69 g for the treatments T1, T2 and T3 respectively. Specific growth rate (SGR%), survival and total production in treatments are found insignificant. The growth of shrimp P. monodon, finfish M. cephalus and L. persia is significant while level; growth for species R. corsula, was found insignificant.

  A total of 100 ISA-Vedette, 100 Arbor Acres and 1000 Hybro fast growing broiler chicks were divided in to 5 replications having 20 chicks in each, reared up to 42 days of age to select the suitable broiler strain of better profitability and meat yield traits. A total of 30 representative male and female broiler from each breed slaughtered at 42 days of age to investigate the dressing yield. ISA-Vedette was the highest in respect of body weight (1552.25 m/b) and feed intake (3105 m/b) followed by Hybro (1401.60 and 2764 m/b) and Arbor Acres (1372.48 and 2749 m/b) respectively. Production cost and profitability of ISA-Vedette, Hybro and Arbor Acres were 44.23 and 25.77, 50.01 and 20.00 and 50.41 and 19.49 Tk/kg live bird respectively. The strains were significantly for body weight, blood weight and giblet weight. Despite there was no significant difference among the strains, ISA-Vedette was the superior for dressing yield to the other strains. That ISA-Vedette is the most suitable strain in tropical environment in comparison with the other strains (Hybro and Arbor Acres).

  Effect of different eyes number viz., E1, E2 and E3 per cut seed tuber and five levels of nitrogen viz., N0, N60, N120, N180 and N240 and their all possible combinations on the growth, yield and tuber size grading of potato (cv. Diamant) was studied at the Bangladesh Agricultural University during 1997 and 1998 cropping season. Canopy coverage, main stem number hill-1, tuber number hill-1 significantly increased with the increasing number of eyes in cut seed tuber piece. Cut seed tuber piece with 3 eyes required the shortest period to shoot emergence, but produced the smallest tubers. Three eyed cut seed tuber produced the maximum tuber yield, 31.7 t ha-1, which was statistically similar to 2-eyed seed piece (31.4 t ha-1). Higher nitrogen significantly increased all the parameters studied and took less number of days to shoot emergence and tuber maturity. 240 KgN ha-1 produced the maximum tuber yield (35.2 t ha-1), but the performance of N180 and N240 showed non-significant variation. Grade A (>55 mm) and B (55-40 mm) sized tubers increased, but grade C (40-28 mm) and D (<28 mm) sized tubers decreased with the increase of nitrogen. The highest tuber yield was obtained from the combination (s) of E2 X N240 or E3 X N180. Maximum tubers of grade A, B, C and D were produced from the combinations of E1/E2 X N240, E1 X N60/N240 or E2 X N60/N180 or E3 X N60, E3 X N0 and E2 X N0, respectively. From the economic point of view, 2-eyed seed tuber piece and 180 KgN ha-1 were the best either singly or combinely to achieve maximum growth and yield potential.

  A study was undertaken to evaluate the possibility of utilizing natural brackishwater (from Shibsa River) in the hatching operation and larvae culture of Macrobrachium rossenbergii. Three treatments each with three replications were tested. Natural brackish water diluting by rainwater (T1), natural brackishwater diluting by under ground tap water (T2) and natural brackish water with salinity range from 12 to 20 ppt. (T3) were considered. In case of dilution (in T1 and T2) salinity concentration range was maintain from 4-18 ppt as per requirement of the experiment and stage of brood and larvae. Significant higher survival (23.38%) for T1 was observed followed by T3 with 13.63% and T2 with 4.38% up to post larvae (PL) stage. Significant (p<0.05) difference in survival rate of larvae between T1 and T2 and T2 and T3 was observed. Study reveals that natural brackishwater diluting by rain water can be effectively used in the hatching operation and larvae culture of the freshwater giant prawn, M. rossnbergii.
