  A fully passive optical signal tapping device named Passive In-line Monitoring (PIM) device is developed to provide and increase the monitoring and maintenance capabilities of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH). This device will be permanently installed with the FTTH trunk lines to tap out a small ratio of triple-play signals for monitoring appliance without affecting the service transmission. The PIM device optically splits the full-duplex signals into two portions; 98% maintains in the transmission link, while the other 2% is simultaneously connects to a portable tester unit for identifying the signal presence and direction. Such features also allow the network operators to maintain and operate their network more cost-effectively and offer the end-users with an improved survivability and reliability network, which is continuously monitored 24 h a day and 7 days a week. A PIM device prototype had been successfully developed in this study and implemented in FTTH. The experimental results show the parameters of PIM device are operating wavelength 1310 /1480/1550 nm, operating bandwidth±15 nm, insertion loss≤1.5 dB, return loss≥35 dB and directionality≥55 dB.

  Buses are the most widely used in transit technology today because bus networks are easily accessible and cheaper than other kinds of public transportation. Proper Schedule of bus service is a main issue in the reliability of bus operation. To achieve this, minimizing of delays is one solution for increasing its reliability. In fact, static structure and the real operation of bus scheduling have some difference with each other, due to some cases, such as traffic congestion and the accumulation of delays of buses missions. This article describes an analysis of bus routes that included two sections: mixed traffic lane and exclusive traffic lane. Using the specific lane for bus operation can decrease delays in bus mission. We studied this issue in a real case inter-city bus operation. It has been highlighted that by using two types of lane in bus route included mixed traffic lane and exclusive bus lane delays of bus operation will be reduced. This high performance level can be shown by using statistical analysis.

  The right choice of tool path strategies in the CNC milling of UHMWPE can lead to significant reduction in machining time, improvement of workpiece surface quality and tool life, thereby, leading to overall cost reduction and higher productivity. In the study, the effects of toolpath strategies on the surface roughness and machining time during CNC milling of UHMWPE materials as acetabular liners of artificial hip joints were examined. The machining experiments were performed using 3-axis CNC milling and three toolpath strategies such as raster, step and shallow and optimize constant Z machining were investigated. The cutting parameters for machining UHMWPE was set-up using the toolpath strategy with step and shallow machining, at a spindle speed of 7000 rpm, step over 0.01 mm and feed rate of 1500 mm/rev. The surface Roughness (Ra) of the outer and inner acetabular liner generated by this CNC machine is 1.195 μm. The results meet the ASTM standard for the Ra value of the acetabular liner for the artificial hip joint which requires a maximum Ra value of 2.0 μm.
