  Determining Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) in biological systems is of significant importance and prediction of PPI has turn out to be a popular research area. Although, different classifiers have been developed for PPI prediction no single classifier seems to be intelligent to predict PPI with high confidence. Here, it is postulated that by combining individual classifiers the accuracy of PPI prediction could be surely improved. In this research, here developed a method called Modified Protein-Protein Interaction Prediction Classifiers Merger (MPPCM) and this method combines output from two PPI prediction tools, GO2PPI and Phyloprof, using Ada Boost algorithm. The performance of MPPCM was tested by Area Under the Curve (AUC) using an assembled gold standard database that contains both positive and negative PPI pairs. Our AUC test showed that MPPCM significantly improved the PPI prediction accuracy over the corresponding individual classifiers. We found that additional classifiers incorporated into MPPCM could lead to further improvement in the PPI prediction accuracy. Furthermore, cross species MPPCM could achieve competitive and even better prediction accuracy compared to the single species MPPCM. This study established a robust pipeline for PPI prediction by integrating multiple classifiers using Ada Boost algorithm. This pipeline will be useful for predicting PPI in nonmodel species.

  Aims: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ and PPAR-α agonists individually reduce intra-organ triglyceride content and improve insulin sensitivity. However, the precise effects of combined PPAR-γ and PPAR-α therapy on intra-organ triglyceride content and insulin sensitivity in subjects with Type 2 diabetes have not yet been determined.Methods: Diet-controlled Type 2 subjects (n = 9) were studied before and after 16 weeks of combined PPAR-γ [pioglitazone (PIO), 45 mg daily] and PPAR-α [bezafibrate (BEZA), modified release 400 mg daily] agonist therapy. Glucose metabolism and endogenous glucose production were measured following a standard liquid test meal. Liver and muscle triglyceride levels were measured by 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Results: Combined PIO and BEZA therapy reduced mean fasting (7.5 ± 0.5 vs. 6.5 ± 0.2 mmol/l, P = 0.04) and peak postprandial plasma glucose (15.3 ± 1.1 vs. 11.7 ± 0.6 mmol/l, P = 0.007). No significant change in hepatic or muscle triglyceride content was observed. Postprandial suppression of endogenous glucose production remained similar on both study days. Both subcutaneous and visceral fat content increased following therapy.Conclusions: Combined PIO and BEZA therapy in Type 2 diabetes does not decrease intrahepatic triglyceride content or postprandial endogenous glucose production. This study demonstrates an unexpected adverse interaction of PPAR-α with PPAR-γ agonist therapy.

  This study presents a new Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) based stator oriented non-linear control of induction motor drive system using MATLAB/Simulink environment. The non-linear control is employed in the stator by making a small change in the variable transformation and this control technique will not affect the system dynamics and improves the performance in all four quadrants. This reduces size and cost of the induction motor drive system. The steady state and transient response of the drive system is observed in all the four quadrants and their torque and speed characteristics were studied. This non-linear control in this system is better compared to other systems. The motor drive is simulated in all four quadrants and their waveforms were plotted.

  Smart grid system is a convoluted system in order to provide profound changes in the current grid system. This is fully automated grid utilizes latest information, communication techniques and internet which is truly interconnected and highly open to cyber attacks. Any attack in one location easily propagates through the network and can have immediate impact over wide area network. Without ample security implementation, a smart grid leads to serious outcome such as instability of the grid, malfunctioning of devices, theft in user information and fraud in consumer’s energy consumption data. This work briefs the smart grid technologies, key factors, types of attacks and mainly the authentication schemes used to minimize the attacks.

  A Phase Shifted-Zero Voltage Switching (PS-ZVS) Full Bridge DC-DC Converter (FBDCC) over a wide load variation is proposed. The proposed converter is designed for high efficiency, small size and low switching stress also for no load to wide load variations. In this converter Phase Shifted Pulse Width Modulation (PS-PWM) control is used to reduce the ringing. The transformer leakage inductance is used for resonance where losses are reduced and efficiency is more. The operation of the proposed converter is simulated using Pspice software and verified on a 1 kW (kW) experimental prototype converter operating at 25 kHz with 25 V dc input.

  This study focuses on the control of fuel cell based boost converter in Distributed Generation (DG) systems in smart grid under voltage sag conditions. Different control strategies for the fuel cell based boost converter are designed. Moreover, the control strategies for boost converter are investigated for different types of loads in the power conversion system. The power conversion system is considered with different loads and the voltage sag is studied.

  A nonlinear control technique with Hybrid Active Power Filter topology (HAPF) is projected in this study for eliminating current harmonics produced via onlinear load when connected along a power system. An active power filter linked to a shunt inactive LC Filter constitutes the proposed hybrid filter. Hybrid filter performance is been evaluated from the results obtained from the simulations done by Simulink software. Influence of Q factor and passive filter ratings on the hybrid scheme’s compensation performance are also evaluated. It is shown that the proposed configuration can effectively suppress current harmonics.

  This study presents an analysis of neural network scheme for tracking Maximum Power Point (MPP) of the PV panel. The performance in terms of energy conversion efficiency is compared with the most commonly used P and O algorithm. The method used for MPP Tracking (MPPT) is tuned for giving its best efficiency using a planned calibration procedure. The non linearity of the PV panel is replicated considering the mathematical equations of the solar cell. MATLAB/Simulink is used to simulate the PV panel model along with a conventional DC-DC boost converter for MPPT.

  This study proposes a Current Source Inverter (CSI) consists of double-tuned resonant circuit at the source side for boosting the input voltage with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) which may suitable for microgrid applications. This proposed current source double-tuned inverter overcomes the drawbacks of conventional CSI by reducing the losses and space. Harmonics at the DC side input voltage is attenuated by the construction of double tuned circuit. The double tuned CSI with different control topologies are designed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink.

  Z source converter is the improved version of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) which utilizes shoot through state of the switches and can be operated in both buck and boost mode of operation. The major drawbacks of Z Source Converter (ZSC) is the high cost, more space and not suitable for lower power applications. In order to overcome these disadvantages, Switched Boost Converter (SBC) is proposed. The proposed converter overcomes the limitations of the conventional ZSC such as lower cost, compact space and less use of passive components. This feature of SBC makes it appropriate for micro grid applications. In this study, SBC is designed for micro grid applications with Proportional-integral controller as well as fuzzy logic controller and total harmonic distortions are compared.

  The aim of this study to evaluat the immunological impact of the Crude Ecdysone Fractions (CEF) of 3 ferns such as Christella parasitica (L.) H.lev., Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Khun and Hemionitis arifolia (Burm) T. More. on two major polyphagous pests, Helicoverpa armigera Hubner and Spodoptera litura (Fabr.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The results revealed that the Haemosomic Index (HI) and the Total Haemocyte Count (THC) were higher in control than the experimental insects. Irrespective of the CEF treatment, HI increased gradually from the first day to the fourth day of observation. Similar trend was also observed for the THC. Among the three ferns, C. parasitica highly reduce the HI followed by H. arifolia and P. aquilinum. Six types of haemocytes viz., Prohaemocytes (PR), Plasmatocytes (PL), Granular cells (GR), Spherule cells (SP), Oenocytoids (OE) and Adipohaemocytes (AD) were observed in both pests. Among the six types of haemocytes observed, PL constituted highest percentage control categories of both H. armigera and S. litura population. In ferns treated categories, PR, SP and AD levels of both pests were increased. Among the six types of haemocytes, cellular mediated response was observed only on GR, SP, PR and PL cells, which either underwent lyses or aggregation. Lyses or aggregation were well pronounced in H. armigera than S. litura.

  Rhynocoris marginatus (Fab.) was reared on two natural lepidopteron pests [Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) and Pericallia ricini (Fab.)] and a factitious host (Corcyra cephalonica Stainton). Whereas Catamiarus brevipennis (Serville) reared on C. cephalonica, S. litura and Thunberg. Impact of these preys on the total body, midgut, hindgut and entire salivary gland weight, their enzymes qualitative profile was recorded. Total carbohydrates and lipids and more amount of proteins were observed in S. litura fed R. marginatus showed maximum total body, midgut, hindgut and salivary gland weights. Presence of more amount of total lipids and carbohydrates in M. pustulata favours the body, gut and salivary gland weight of C. brevipennis. Amylase, invertase, lipase, protease, trypsin and pepsin activities were well pronounced in the midgut than the hindgut of both reduviids. R. marginatus and C. brevipennis salivary gland expressed more amylase, invertase, protease and lipase activities.

  A halotolerant strain of Aeromonas hydrophila was isolated from Vellar estuary, Parangipettai coast, Tamilnadu, India as a best enzyme producer using Tween 80 agar medium. Optimization studies revealed its maximum lipase production with optimized conditions such as 3% Tween80 as carbon source, 1% beef extract as nitrogen source, 0.3% fish waste as cheaper source, pH 9, temperature 37°C, 3% NaCl and 60 h incubation period. Optimized lipase partially purified with 60% Ammonium sulphate purification method results maximum enzyme production of 15 U/mL/L with 34 kDa molecular weight. The enzyme proved increased stability towards pH 7.5-9.5, 40-50°C and 15-30% of organic solvents for 1 h. The results concluded that the Aeromonas hydrophila is one of the potential alkaline lipase producing marine bacteria, with stability towards increased pH, temperature and organic solvents and preferable for further industrial applications.
