Reason(s): The authors have plagiarized a scientific research report entitled “On the symmetrizing transformation of random variables”. The corresponding author Mr. M.T. Uddin was a former student of Professor Chaubey’s but that Mr. Uddin’s studies at Concordia ended on or about 2002.

One of the conditions for submission of a paper is that authors declare explicity that their work is original and has not appeared in a publication elsewhere. Re-use of any data should be appropriately cited. As this article represents a severe abuse of the scientific publishing system. The scientific community takes a very strong view on the matter and we apologize to reader of the journal that this was not detected during the submission process.

  Performance of nine selected wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum L.) was studied during 1995-1996 under saline field environments at village Gundhari, distt. Nowshera. Site soil is recent river alluvium, sandy loam to clay loam in texture, slightly to highly saline and irrigated with tubewell water of 4 dS m–1. Two adjacent fields were surveyed by EM 38 at 2×2 m to identify areas of uniform salinity. Increase of root zone salinity decreased progressively all the plant traits including grain yield and yield component. Grain and straw yield were reduced by 69 and 64 percent respectively at the highest salinity level. Salinity tolerance ranking of cultivars based on absolute grain yield was SARC 3 > Bakhtawar 92 > Kharchia 65 > Blue Silver > SARC 1 > WS 10 > Mutant 1 > KTDH 10 > TW 161. Leaf Na increased, K and K/Na ratio decreased significantly with increase of root zone salinity. Sodium exclusion and K/Na discriminatory accumulation in leaf had contributed salt tolerance to wheat crop but these relationship could not be established in all cultivars.

  Study was conducted on the role of nitrogen (N), applied either alone or in combination with phosphorus (P), in composting of kallar grass [Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth] with particular emphasis on carbon (C) and N conservation during composting. Nitrogen was added as ammonium sulphate and P as single superphosphate. Addition of N alone, though accelerated the composing rate, it did not conserve C and N during composting. However, application of P along with optimum level of N accelerated the composting rate, stimulated the substrate transformation into humic acid, and decreased the N loss. The results erriphasized the need of phosphorus amendment along with nitrogen to conserve C and N during composting of kallar grass.
