  Along with the continuing global warming, the environmental constraints are expected to play more and more important role in the operation of distributed energy resource (DER) systems, besides the economic objective. In this study, a multi-objective optimization model is developed to analyze the optimal operating strategy of a DER system while combining the minimization of energy cost with the minimization of environmental impact which is assessed in terms of CO2 emissions. The trade-off curve is obtained by using the compromise programming method. As an illustrative example, the DER system installed in an eco-campus in Japan has been selected for case study. The distributed technologies under consideration include photovoltaics (PV), fuel cell and gas engine for providing electrical and thermal demands. The obtained results demonstrate that increasing the satisfaction degree of economic objective leads to increased CO2 emissions. The operation of the DER system is more sensitive when environmental objective is paid more attention. Moreover, according to the sensitivity analysis, the consideration of electricity buy-back, carbon tax, as well as fuel switching to biogas, has more or less effect on the operation of DER systems.

  In this paper, a new method that utilizes diaminothiourea-modified silica gel as solid-phase extractant has been developed for preconcentration of trace Hg(II) prior to the measurement by cold-vapour atomic absorption spectrometry. The separation/preconcentration conditions of the analyte, which include the effects of the pH, sample flow rate and volume, elution conditions, shaking time, and interfering ions on the recovery of the analyte were investigated. At pH 2, the adsorption capacity of modified silica gel for Hg(II) was found to be 36.3 mg/g. According to the definition of IUPAC, the detection limits (3σ) of this method for Hg(II) was 0.28 ng/mL. The proposed method yielded satisfactory results when it was applied to the determination of trace Hg(II) in biological and natural water samples.

  Reaction of copper powder, manganese(II) nitrates and multidentate Schiff-base ligands in hot methanol solution led to the isolation of two new MnIII-CuII heterometallic aggregates, [Mn2IIICu2II(H2L)4] · (NO3)2 · 2CH3OH (1) (H4L=2-[(2-hydroxy-benzylidene)-amino]-2-hydroxymethyl-proane-1,3-diol) and [MnIIICuII3(sae)4(MeOH)(H2O)3] · NO3 · MeOH (2) (H2sae = salicylidene-2-ethanolamine). Both compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, XPS, EPR, XRPD and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a = 11.1268(4) Aring, b = 11.6153(4) Aring, c = 11.8129(5) Aring, agr = 88.435(10)°, β = 80.203(10)°, γ = 77.572(10)°, V = 1469.13(10) Aring3, Z = 1, R1(wR2) =0.0300(0.0771). Compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a = 18.1715(7), b = 12.9931(5), c = 19.5903(8) Aring, β = 97.1980(10)°, V = 4588.9(3) Aring3, Z = 4, R1(wR2) = 0.0667 (0.1998). The magnetic susceptibilities of 1 and 2 display the antiferromagnetic interactions in both compounds.

  The mononuclear palladium(II) (1) and platinum(II) (2) complexes containing phenylglycine have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and 1H NMR spectra. The structure of 1 was determined by X-ray diffractometry. The interaction between the complexes and fish sperm DNA (FS-DNA), adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP), and adenine (Ade) were investigated by UV absorption spectra, the interaction mode of the complex binding to DNA was studied by fluorescence spectra and viscometry. The results indicate that the two complexes have different binding affinities to DNA, complex 2 > complex 1. Gel electrophoresis assay demonstrates that the two complexes have the ability to cleave pBR322 plasmid DNA. Cytotoxicity experiments were carried out toward four different cancer cell lines, and 1 shows lower inhibitory efficiency than 2, consistent with the binding affinities towards DNA.

  An organic−inorganic hybrid based on Mn−salen and decavanadate, [NH4]2[Mn(salen)(H2O)2]4[V10O28] · 6H2O (1) (salen = N,N’-ethylene-bis(salicylideneiminate)), has been synthesized by the strategy of secondary building units in mixed methanol−water solution and was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, IR, and UV-Vis. The [Mn(salen)(H2O)2]+ cations and water molecules are located in the interspaces among the polyoxoanions [V10O28]6− forming a POM−based supramolecule. Compound 1 is the first example of metal-Schiff-base polyoxovanadates. The photocatalytic analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and electrocatalytic analysis of 1 have been investigated.
