  Surfactants are amphipathic molecules which reduce surface and interfacial tensions and widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food and petroleum industries. Biosurfactants are the structurally diverse group of surface-active molecules synthesized by microorganisms. There are several advantages for biosurfactants in contrast with chemical surfactants, such as lower toxicity; higher biodegradability; better environmental compatibility; higher foaming; high selectivity and specific activity at extreme temperatures, pH and the ability to be synthesized from renewable feed-stock. In the present study, the production of bioemulsifer by Bacillus licheniformis PTCC 1595 has been studied. B. licheniformis was grown in the nutrient broth medium and bioemulsifer production was evaluated every 24 h by surface tension and emulsification index (E24). Then B. licheniformis PTCC 1595 was grown in nutrient broth with different conditions in order to get maximum production of bioemulsifer. The best culture medium was found to be nutrient broth medium supplemented with starch, Fe2+, Mn2+ and olive oil. After growing the bacteria, the microbial biomass was removed from the supernatant by acidic precipitation method. Its amphipathic structure was established by biochemical and spectroscopy methods and it was confirmed lipopeptide structure.

  A thermoalkalophilic lipase producing bacterial strain, identified as Bacillus atrophaeus FSHM2 using 16S rDNA sequencing analysis was isolated from salty soil and its lipase was partially purified and characterized. The obtained results revealed that glucose, hazelnut oil, urea and calcium ion positively affected the lipase production by increasing the lipolytic activity to 13582.5, 6270, 4442 and 5505 U L–1, respectively compared to that of basal medium (4150 U L–1). The partially purified lipase acted optimally at pH 9 and retained 88.2% of its initial activity after 1 h of incubation at 100°C. A two fold increase in the relative activity of the partially purified lipase was obtained in the presence of 4 M of NaCl. Application of the partially purified lipase for the synthesis of ethyl and methyl valerate in the organic solvent medium (xylene) resulted in 81.6 and 62.4% esterification, respectively, after 24 h of incubation.

  The aim of this study is the evaluation of the effect of one group of surfactants including polyethylene glycol sorbitan esters (Tweens: 20, 40, 60 and 80) on Red Blood Cells (RBC) as a model for biological membranes. Also in this study some of physicochemical properties including Emulsification index (E24) and Foam producing activity (Fh) were studied. In this study the hemolytic effect of four surfactants from Tween category were evaluated. Surfactants solutions were prepared in McIvan`s buffer in specific concentration. 0.2 mL of RBC was mixed with 0.2 mL of one of surfactants solution incubated in four different temperatures for two different times. The absorbance of the samples was determined by UV spectrophotometer. Each test was done nine times. The results were shown by meanĀ±SD. E24 and Fh were also determined for each surfactant solutions. In comparison of the four studied surfactants, Tween 20 have the highest hemolytic effect and the Tween 80 is the lowest one. The values of E24 and Fh have good correlation with Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) values. Increasing in HLB value lead to increasing in those parameters.
