  This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of tree species associations with different orientations grown as intercrop with rice on the incidence of major rice diseases (Bacterial leaf blight, Blast, Sheath blight and Brown spot). Jhau-rice association developed least incidence of four major diseases and the highest disease severity was recorded in Sissoo-rice association. The highest and lowest severity were recorded in O3 and O0, respectively. Out of five tree-rice associations highest yield (4.345 t ha -1) was obtained in case of Jhau-rice (T2) association and lowest yield (2.550 t ha -1) was recorded in Sissoo-rice (T5) association. Regarding different orientations, The highest yield (5.486 t ha -1) was obtained from open field (O0-orientation) and the lowest yield (1.522 t ha -1) was recorded in North-1.5 meter from the tree base (O3).

  Carps are being cultured in Rajshahi District in several forms like, in nursery pond, in rearing pond, in grow-out pond and recently in Beels. A research was designed on the polycutlure of both native and exotic major carps concerning the total cost involved and total return obtained with an objective to find out the profit status of carp culture in Rajshahi region. In this study, a clear relation is found between the total investment cost and total return. Maximum cost was found to be involved in nursery pond and minimum cost in Beel Mail as 223,052.00 and 3417.00 taka ha 1, respectively. Similarly, total return was also come from nursery pond culture system and minimum return from Beel Mail as 475,500.00 and 4030.00 taka ha 1, respectively. But the rate of profit in contrast of investment was found maximum in case of grow-out pond and minimum in Beel Mail as, 154 and 17%, respectively. However, the profit percentage of different pond culture system is more or less similar but significantly different from in Beel culture system.

  Fifteen advanced lines of tomato including two check cvs. `Manik` and `BARI-10` were assessed under natural epiphytotics for their performance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) and early blight (Alternaria solani). The highest late blight disease incidence was found in V-52 & V-215 and the lowest in V-378. Two lines were found resistant (V-426 & V-259), two moderately resistant (V-187 & V-385), two were tolerant (V-282 & V-422), four moderately susceptible (V-378, V-138, V-258 and BARI 10), three were susceptible (V-330, V-201 and Manik) and two highly susceptible (V-52 & V-215), but none was found highly resistant. In case of early blight V-259 showed the highest and V-215 showed the lowest disease incidence. On the basis of early blight disease intensity, one was found resistant (V-52), three were moderately resistant (V-138, V-201 and V-215), six were moderately susceptible (V-378, V-282, V-330, V-426, V-422 and Manik), four were susceptible (V-187, V-385, V-258 and BARI 10), one was highly susceptible (V-259) and none was found highly resistant.
