  The objective of present study was to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Cucumis melo seeds traditionally consumed and it was studied for free radical scavenging potential by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and DPPH method. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Analgesic activity was evaluated by tail immersion and tail flick methods in mice. The percentage scavenging of DPPH radical and H2O2 radical was 74.9% at 300 μg mL-1 and 58.91% at 200 μg mL-1 respectively concentration of. The H2O2 scavenging effect of MECM was 58.91%. The percentage reduction of paw edema was 56.6% at the dose of 300 mg kg-1. The high dose caused significant reduction in pain. Thus it can be concluded from the above results that Cucumis melo seeds have potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and analgesic activity.

  The present study was to investigate antioxidant, analgesic and antiulcer effect of ethanolic seeds extract of Trichosanthes cucumerina. Extraction was done by cold maceration method for 72 h using ethanol as solvent. The preliminary phytochemical screening showed the presence of triterpenoids, flavanoids and sterols. The antioxidant activity was determined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging method. The extract showed maximum scavenging activity 86.2% at 150 μg mL-1 by DPPH method as compared to standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. Further extract was studied for antiulcer activity by ethanol induced ulcer model and Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs induced method and analgesic activity by Eddy’s hot plate method. Ethanolic extract of Trichosanthes cucumerina cause 72.1 and 57.1% inhibition of ulcer in Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs induced model and ethanol induced model at 500 mg kg-1. Result concluded that Ethanolic extract of Trichosanthes cucumerina possess high antiulcer activity which is due to high antioxidant activity and extract also showed potential analgesic activity by Eddy’s hot plate method.

  The present study was designed to investigate the free radical scavenging, anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential of methanolic extract of Benincasa hispida seeds (MEBH). Free radical scavenging potential of MEBH was evaluated by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) method. The extract showed significant free radical scavenging activity in a dose dependent manner when compared with ascorbic acid. The highest radical scavenging activity of MEBH was found to be 79.8% at concentration of 300 μg mL-1. The H2O2 scavenging effect of MEBH was 63.7% at a concentration of 200 (μg mL-1). Further, the extract was studied for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities at the dose level of 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Analgesic activity was evaluated by tail immersion and tail flick methods in mice. The extract showed significant decrease in paw volume (59.7% reduction) and pain at the dose level of 300 mg kg-1 when compared with reference drug diclofenac and morphine, respectively. The MEBH may be useful as a natural antioxidant in the treatment of inflammation and pain.

  The present study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-ulcerogenic potential of Citrus karna peel extract. Extraction of Citrus karna peels was carried out using different solvents. Phytochemical screening and evaluation of antioxidant activity of all the extracts were carried out. Further, anti-ulcerogenic activity of ethyl acetate extract of Citrus karna peels (EtCK) was assessed in water immersion (WIS) and hypothermic restraint (HRS) stress models at different doses (200, 300 and 400 mg kg-1). EtCK showed ulcer protective effect in both models in a dose dependent manner, which was indicated by decrease in the ulcerative index and thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) level in the blood and gastric tissue samples as compared to the disease control group. Moreover, antioxidant markers i.e., reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in the blood and tissue samples were found to be significantly increased in medium and high doses of EtCK (300 and 400 mg kg-1) treated groups similar to that of ranitidine treated group. The present study concluded that EtCK has a significant anti-ulcer effect at a dose level of 300 and 400 mg kg-1. Hence, it may be considered as a useful herbal therapeutic agent for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease.

  The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant potential using various in vitro methods by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and Hydrogen peroxide. Antiulcerogenic effect of methanolic Cassia tora seed extract was evaluated by pyloric ligation and non-steroidal anti inflammatory induced mucosal damage on Wistar Albino rats. The phytochemical screening shows the presence of various phytoconstituents belonging to class of alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids and steroids. The extract showed maximum antioxidant activity i.e., 76.35±0.52 and 70.17±0.14 by 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and Hydrogen peroxide at the dose of 200 μg mL-1, respectively as compared to the standard (ascorbic acid). Further, antiulcer activity was assessed in which the experimental animals were divided into five groups categorized as control, standard, normal and two extract treated groups. Various biochemical parameters such as gastric volume, free and total acidity was recorded from all groups. The reduction of ulcer index as well as gastric acid output in extract treated animals was found to be statistically significant with respect to control animals. The extract exhibited optimum percentage inhibition of 75% by pyloric ligation and 70.31% by non-steroidal anti inflammatory induced ulcer method at concentration of 200 μg mL-1, respectively which was comparable to standard (ranitidine). Cassia tora Linn. is well known traditional plant used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. The present study suggests that Cassia tora seed extract possessed potent anti-ulcerogenic properties that might be afforded via cytoprotective mechanism by virtue of its antioxidant properties. These results supported the ethnomedical uses of Cassia tora seeds in the treatment of antiulcer.

  Imides are the biologically active compounds having different pharmacological activities such as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-depressant and anti-cancer etc. These compounds play an important role in medicinal chemistry in drug development and drug discovery. In this research novel Schiff bases of imides moiety have been synthesized which showed analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Novel Schiff base derivatives of imides moiety have been synthesized by multistep reaction. First step involves the reaction of phthalic anhydride with 4-amino benzaldehyde in the presence of dichloromethane which results in the formation of 4-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl) benzaldehyde. Then, this compound on reaction with various derivatives of aniline in the presence of glacial acetic acid produced the desirable new Schiff bases. The structure of these compounds has been established by IR, 1H-NMR studies and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were screened for their anti-inflammatory potential using carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model and analgesic activity by tail immersion and hot plate methods in mice at different concentrations i.e., 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1. The results showed that the Schiff bases of imide moiety possess significant therapeutic potential and can be used as analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents.

  During the past few decades, the drugs from natural products have gained importance in the field of medicine. Many plants and their products exhibit marked pharmacological activities. Lagenaria siceraria fruit is one of the important natural plant which is used in the treatment of various disorders. The present study was designed to investigate the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential of ethanolic extract of Lagenaria siceraria seeds. The Lagenaria siceraria seeds were evaluated for their antioxidant potential by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl method. The extract showed significant antioxidant potential in a dose dependent manner as compared to ascorbic acid. The extract showed maximum scavenging activity i.e., 75.19% at 200 μg by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging method. Thus, it was further studied for anti-inflammatory activity by Carrageenan induced rat paw edema and analgesic activity by Tail immersion method and Hot plate method at different concentrations i.e., 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1. The results showed that ethanolic extract of Lagenaria siceraria seeds possess good therapeutic potential and may be useful as a natural antioxidant and it can be used in the treatment of inflammation and pain.

  The different parts of Luffa echinata “Bindaal” plant are traditionally claimed and scientifically proved to be used in Liver disorders, jaundice, poisoning and migraine as antioxidant etc. but seeds part of this plant has not been explored yet. The present study was designed to investigate the free radical scavenging, anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential of methanolic extract of Luffa echinata seeds (MELE). Free radical scavenging potential of MELE was evaluated by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl method). The extract showed significant (p<0.05) free radical scavenging activity in dose dependent manner as compared with Ascorbic acid. The maximum free radical scavenging activity of MELE was found to be 82.34% at concentration of 150 μg mL-1 by the DPPH free radical scavenging method. Antioxidant effect was also investigated qualitatively using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. The extract was further evaluated for its anti-inflammatory activity by using carrageenan-induced paw oedema in rats. Analgesic activity was evaluated by tail immersion and Hot plate methods in mice. Anti -inflammatory and analgesic activities were evaluated at dose level 50, 150 and 200 mg kg-1. The extract showed significant decrease in paw volume (60.57% reduction) and analgesic effect shown at the dose level of 200 mg kg-1 as compared to the reference drug diclofenac sodium. The MELE may be useful as a natural antioxidant in the treatment of inflammation and pain.

  The present study was to investigate the anti-ulcer activity of methanolic extract of Cucumis melo (MECM) seeds. The seeds were extracted with methanol and the extract was evaluated for its free radical scavenging activity by DPPH. It shows maximum antioxidant activity. Thus extract was further evaluated against gastric ulcerations by Pyloric Ligation (PL), Water Immersion Stress (WIS) and NSAID (indomethacin) induced ulcer (NIU) models. In case of PL method, the extract inhibited gastric ulcerations in a dose-related manner (150 and 300 mg kg-1). Then it was evaluated for gastric volume, free acidity, total acidity, ulcerative index. The ulcerative index was also measured in WIS model and NIU with same doses. The MECM caused 57.6, 67.6 and 61.9% inhibition of ulcers in pyloric ligation, water immersion stress, NSAID induced ulcer models respectively at 300 mg kg-1. The results concluded that MECM possess high antiulcer potential which is due to its higher antioxidant activity.

  Medicinal plants have been traditionally used for the treatment and prevention of peptic ulcer. The present study was designed to investigate antioxidant and antiulcer potential of methanolic fruit extract of Prunus domestica. Antioxidant activity was measured by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide free radical scavenging method. The extract showed maximum scavenging activity i.e., 82.12±0.654 and 79.43±0.876 at 200 μg mL-1. Further the extract was evaluated for its anti-ulcerogenic activity by pyloric ligation model. The extract showed significant inhibition of ulcer i.e., 70.58% at 200 mg kg-1. The present study concludes that Prunus domestica fruit posses potent antioxidant and anti-ulcerogenic effect.

  The present study was designed to investigate Cucumis melo var. utilissimus seeds for their antioxidant and therapeutic potential. The antioxidant activity of methanolic extract was measured by DPPH method and hydrogen peroxide free radical scavenging activity. The methanolic extract of Cucumis melo var. utilissimus seeds (MECU) showed maximum antioxidant potential. Hence, it was further evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan induced rat paw edema and analgesic activity by tail immersion method and tail flick method at different concentrations, i.e., 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1. The significant results was found at maximum dose. The results suggested that methanolic seed extract possess great therapeutic potential.

  The present study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant and antibacterial activity of methanolic leaf extract of Hippophae rhamnoides L. (Sea buckthorn, SBT) leaves under in vitro conditions. The chemical composition of the methanolic leaf extract was quantified in terms of total phenol and flavonoid contents. The Hippophae rhamnoides methanolic leaf extract exhibited potent antioxidant activity determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and then by 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS), assays. The scavenging capacity by DPPH and ABTS of the extracts was found to increase with every unit increase of Hippophae rhamnoides leaf extracts reaching 68% at 30 μg mL-1 concentration. Further, the extract was evaluated for antibacterial activity against three human pathogenic bacteria E. coli, A. protophormial and M. luteus, however, it was maximum against E. coli. The study shows that the methanolic extract of Hippophae rhamnoides leaves have marked antioxidant and antibacterial activities.

  In this study, we planned to evaluate the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential of Citrus medica peel extract. Antioxidant activity in different solvent systems was evaluated. Ethyl acetate extract of Citrus medica peel (EtCM) showed maximum 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging activity in a dose dependent manner as compared to ascorbic acid. Further, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of EtCM (200, 300 and 400 mg kg-1) were studied on carrageenan induced inflammatory pain in rats. Anti-inflammatory activity was assessed by measuring paw volume in rats. Analgesic activity was evaluated for its central and peripheral pharmacological actions by using hot plate, plantar, pin prick and mechanical allodynia tests in rats. EtCM (400 mg kg-1) produced significant decrease in paw volume and pain as compared to diclofenac. Therefore, the Citrus medica peel extract may be used as a future antioxidant for the treatment of inflammation and pain.

  In the present study free radical scavenging and antiulcer potential of Benincasa hispida seeds was evaluated. The powdered seeds were extracted with methanol. The extract was evaluated for its free radical scavenging activity by DPPH method followed by antiulcer activity using pyloric ligation, water immersion stress and NSAID (indomethacin) induced gastric ulcer model (NIU) in rats. The parameters assessed were gastric volume, free acidity, total acidity, ulcer index and percentage ulcer protection. Ranitidine was used as the reference antiulcer drug. The methanolic extract showed concentration dependent DPPH radical scavenging activity. The methanolic extract of Benincasa hispida seeds (MEBH) inhibited gastric ulceration by decreasing the gastric volume, free and total acidity. The high dose (300 mg kg-1) showed significant reduction in the above parameters which was comparable to the standard drug ranitidine (p<0.05). The MEBH caused 52.7, 67.4 and 61.2% inhibition of ulcers in pyloric ligation, water immersion stress and NSAID induced ulcer models, respectively at 300 mg kg-1. Thus it can be concluded that the seeds of Benincasa hispida possess potent antiulcer activity. The antiulcer action may be exerted through free radical scavenging mechanism.

  These seeds have been traditionally used for various diseases like dysentery, diarrhoea, piles, keeping in mind of their traditional value our present study was to explore wild Punica granatum seeds for its antioxidant and antiulcer potential. The phytochemical screening of the ethanolic seed extract indicates the presence of triterpenoid, sterols, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and coumarin glycoside. Antioxidant activity of the wild Punica granatum ethanolic seed extract was measured by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide free radical scavenging method. Further it was evaluated for its anti-ulcer activity by pyloric ligation model in wistar albino rats. Gastric volume, ulcerative index and free and total acidity were measured in this model. The extract showed maximum scavenging activity i.e., 82.80±0.267 and 74.91±0.235 at 100 μg mL-1 by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and hydrogen peroxide method respectively as compared to the standard (ascorbic acid) in case of quantitative analysis and showed yellow coloration with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging radical in case of qualitative analysis. In pyloric ligation method, the extract showed optimum percentage inhibition of 74.51% at 100 μg mL-1 which was comparable to the standard (ranitidine). The present study concludes that wild Punica granatum ethanolic seed extract possesses significant antioxidant and anti-ulcer activities.
