  The nutritive value of alfalfa (variety of Hamedani) was evaluated at late maturity (mid to late bloom). The in vivo digestibility of the hay was determined by conducting digestibility and respiration trials in three Gezel rams. Dry matter, organic matter and protein degradability of the hay was determined by nylon bag technique and in vitro Organic Matter Digestibility (OMD) and Metabolizable Energy (ME) content were determined by Gas production technique. The results showed that the crude protein, Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) content of alfalfa hay were 15.8, 43.1 and 29.4%, respectively. In vivo Dry Matter (DMD), Organic Matter (OMD), Crude Protein (CPD) digestibilities and ME content in alfalfa hay were 65, 66.7, 64% and 9.6 MJ per kg DM, respectively. In situ DM, OM and CP effective degradability at a rate 0.02 h 1 were 64, 61.23 and 49.6%, respectively. Gas production technique OMD and ME content were 71.2% and 10.69 MJ per kg DM. Results obtained with nylon bag technique were confirmed by the in vivo experiments involving the alfalfa hay samples.

  This study was conducted to evaluate quality indices in two common Iranian alfalfa varieties as a forage source in sheep nutrition. The studied alfalfa varieties were Hamedani (HAM) and Kareyonge (KAR). Chemical composition, Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL), leaf to stem ratio and predicted Dry Matter Intake (DMI), Dry Matter Digestibility (DMD) were determined and Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN), Net Energy for Lactation (NEL), Relative Feed Value (RFV), Relative Forage Quality (RFQ), of feeds were estimated. Three ruminal fistulated Gezel rams, were used for in vivo and in situ trials. The NDF and ADF contents of two alfalfa varieties were significantly different (p< 0.01). No significant difference found between CP, ADL and leaf to stem ratio of two alfalfa hays (p>0.05). The TDN and NEL contents of two varieties and DMI (% of BW and g per kg BW0.75) and DMD (%) had significant differences (p< 0.01). The RFV and RFQ values for experimental varieties were significantly different (p< 0.01). It can be concluded that HAM hay can have a higher nutritional quality than KAR hay because of lower cell wall and higher TDN contents and therefore, HAM hay may be evaluated more accurately when tested for RFQ instead of RFV.

  Since the homozygote of sex alleles or inbreeding has a great role in the different characteristics of honey bees colony`s like the production of honey, this phenomena has been considered in Mianeh. In order to do this 5% of modern hives were chosen and considered in this area. According to the given method by Rotner. The cells which were free of brood were recorded and considered as index of inbreeding. Also the honey production was measured by weighting the hives. Inbreeding studies showed no significant differences between several of Mianeh so that the percent inbreeding was 9.22, 10.93 and 23.48 for Kandowan, Torkmanchai and Kaghazkonan, respectively. The total mean value in Mianeh was estimated as 15.05%. Mean honey production per hive was 11.9 kg. According to this study there were significant negative relationship between inbreeding and honey production (r = -0.57).

  Bee sting represent an uncommon cause of death. Bee stings are a common, painful and rarely injury. Most literature regarding the immediate treatment of bee stings states that the sting should be scraped off, perhaps with a knife blade, credit card, or fingernail and never plucked out by pinching with forceps or one`s fingers. To assay the venom injected by a bee sting, we measured the area of the weal achieved its maximum size approximately 10 min after sting. Ten min after each sting was administered, this observer measured the maximum and minimum diameters of the raised portion of the weal, using a digital caliper. Increased venom dose led to larger weal sizes. Weal area was approximately a log_linear of dose. We showed that the sting weal bioassay we used is well correlated with the quantity of venom received by the subject.

  Propolis is a substance made by the honeybee that provides protection against harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi. The present study was designed to investigate the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Iranian propolis. One hundred forty compounds were identified by gas chromatography. Important chemical compositions in these propolises are: Flavonoids, Esters, Aliphatic acids, Aromatic acids, Sugars and sugar alcohols. All samples propolis ethanol extract Practice killed gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria and fungi with the highest antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria.
