  Brevibacterium flavum maintained at 7.0 pH level and at 37 °C temperature, gives maximum production of lysine. When the organism was given UV shocks for 30 minutes, gave the lysine in maximum quality. Water substrate ratio, addition of molasses, addition of corn steep liquor were optimized. At 40% water substrate ratio, addition of 4% corn steep liquor and 4% molasses bacteria was most efficient in the production of lysine. The biomass thus produced contained 32.8% crude protein, 20.87% true protein, 34% ash and 1.1% fat contents on the basis of dry matter. There was no increase or decrease in ether extract and crude fiber. The biomass produced was analyzed by three-enzyme method. Its digestibility was 85.69% in single cell protein biomass. Amino acid profile showed that lysine production was 21.48mg/g on the basis of protein.

  The biokinetics parameters were investigated following oral dose of 1g secnidazole in healthy female volunteers. The plasma samples were deproteinized by ZnSO4 and NaOH analyzed by HPLC. The mean maximum concentration in plasma was found to be 23.08?0.8 after 2.5 h of drug administration. The area under curve (AUC) was 349.05 ± 20.9 h mg L-1. The clearance and volume of distribution were 0.44 ± 0.37 L h-1 and 11.09 ± 7.81 L respectively. The elimination half life was 13.86?0.92 h. The values for absorption rate constant and absorption half life were 2.97 ± 0.46 L h-1 and 0.27?0.03 h. The maximum concentration 16.24 ± 0.48 mg L-1 was achieved in 1.77 ± 0.16 h. These parameters showed that protein deproteinization method and analysis techniques are valid for the protein analysis of secnidazole.

  The Biodisposition of Ciprofloxacin was investigated in 10 healthy male volunteers after an oral administration of 250 mg tablet. Antibiotic concentration was measured by UV spectrophotometer. The kinetic parameters were calculated after performing one compartment model analysis. The absorption half-life and biological half-life showed Mean ± SD values of 1.068 ± 0.295 and 1.451 ± 0.516 h the apparent volumes of distribution of Ciprofloxacin were found 28.59±6.6 liters. The average value of absorption rate constant was 0.625±0.519 h-1. The mean ± SD value of MRT was 3.903 ± 0.802 h total body clearance ranged between 11.13 to 22.48 with mean ± SD value of 14.33±3.19 l h-1. These values deviate from the literature values emphasizing that such kind of studies must be conducted in local populations so that an appropriate dosage can prescribed.

  The present study was conducted for urinary excretion of aspirin in adult female volunteers. Aspirin (2x300 mg) was given to each volunteer orally and urine samples were collected at different time intervals and analyzed by spectrophotometric and thin layer chromatographic methods. The results indicated that the free aspirin excreted as salicylic acid at 720 min was 0.142 ± 0.073, 0.029 ± 0.015 and conjugated drug was 0.066 ± 0.022 mg, respectively. The value of dose excreted as total salicylic acid in the urine was 0.594 ± 0.108%. These values deviate from the literature values emphasizing that such kind of studies must be conducted in local populations so that an appropriate dosage can prescribed.

  Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. Renal clearance of the drug and that of endogenous creatinine was determined by oral administration of 2 H 100 mg doxycycline in healthy male volunteers. Before drug administration control samples and after drug administration blood and urine samples were collected, at predetermined time periods. The samples were assayed for endogenous creatinine by spectrophotometric methods and doxycycline by microbiological assay. Mean± SE values for the blood and urine pH mean were 7.81 ± 0.030 and 6.13 ± 0.187, respectively. The rate of urine flow (diuresis) was 0.056 ± 0.011 ml/min/kg and creatinine was cleared at rate of 1.109 ± 0.386 ml/min/kg of body weight. Average ± SE value for doxycycline clearance was 0.49 ± 0.056 ml/min/kg and mean ± SE value for clearance ratio was 1.046 ± 0.366. A significant positive correlation between diuresis and renal clearance of doxycycline indicate the back diffusion or reabsorption of the drug.

  In the study of insect pests of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill,) in Peshawar, the insects found or feeding on soybean plants were white fly Bemisia tabaci (Gen), Thrips flavus Schr, jassids Amrasca biguttula (Gen)., painted bug Piezodorus sp., hairy catterpiller Euproctus sp., chrysomellids Systena sp. and different species of grasshoppers including Acrida exalta Walk., Truxalix nasuta (Lin.), Euprepocnemis alacris alacris (Ser.) and Attractomorpha acutipennis (Guer). Also the relative abundance of each of these species on different cultivars of soybean was recorded from August to November. Cultivar GS-50277-266-9-21 attracted significantly large number of all the recorded insects showing its least resistance or maximum susceptibility. Not a single cultivar was fount to be resistant to all the insect pests. However, cultivar WILL was relatively more resistant to white files, cultivar GC-81090-72-7 was relatively more resistant to painted bug and hairy caterpillar and cultivar GC-81083-83 was relatively more resistant to jassids and thrips than the other cultivars.

  Four vegetables brinjal, bitter gourd, colocasia and tomato were subjected for total protein, crude fiber, ash calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, ascorbic acid and folic acid contents in raw peeled raw cooked and peeled cooked forms. Losses of nutrients due to peeling and cooking were determined. The loss of protein was non-significant during peeling and was significant during cooking except in colocasia. Vegetables lost crude fiber significantly during peeling, cooking caused significant effect only in peeled form, ash reduced significantly during peeling and cooking except in tomato. Four minerals reduced significantly in both peeling and cooking especially in peeled cooking. Vitamins losses were highly significant in both peeling and cooking.
