  The high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin subunits from seven Pakistani wheat genotypes were fractionated by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), in order to characterise the plant material and test the variability within species. The mitotic results indicated that the chromosomal count in six genotypes was 2n= 42. The number of chromosomes in variety Sargab-92 were somewhat irregular, showing 2n= 40 as well as 41 instead of 42 chromosomes. The banding patterns of HMW glutenin subunits of 6 Pakistani wheat genotypes were proved to be similar and a genetic variability was shown by the genotype Sargab-92, in which 4 extra bands had been identified.

  Four local and two commercial maize varieties were used as experimental material, to evaluate the biodiversity among them by using SDS-PAGE technique. Variations were observed in protein profile shown by all of them and some similarities also. Kisan-90 was different from the rest, as it was variable in the banding pattern. There were similarities in Kotli White and Sarhad White, where as they shared two common bands. Poonch Yellow and Kotli Yellow had similarity at least for one band. All the rest of accessions were different. Kisan-90 however was prominent in protein profile in the gel.

  Hexaploid wheat has the largest cultivation area among all other crop plants, due to its adaptability to different agro-climatic zones. To cater for the requirements of varied regional breeding programs a screening trial was conducted, in which six hexaploid wheat genotypes were executed for their adaptability under the agro-ecological environment of district Poonch, Azad Kashmir. Punjab-96, khyber-87 and pirsabak-91 have shown maximum plant height, number of spikelets/plant, spike length and 1000 grains weight. Increase in number of tillers/plant was only reported for variety Punjab-96. In this study only Punjab-96 was recommended for general cultivation in district Poonch, Azad Kashmir.
