  Pheromone traps against American Bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera, Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) were installed at 1.5 m from the ground in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.). First moth, in the field, was appeared during 7th and 6th weeks of traps installation each year 1995 and 1996, respectively. Maximum mean numbers of moths (11th and 7th) were captured during 9th and 7th weeks of traps installation, when the average temperatures were 28.38 and 25.78oC each year, respectively. A total mean number of 24 and 17 moths were captured during the two years of study respectively. The adult pest remained in the field till 11th and 4th August 1995 and 1996, respectively. The study strongly recommends the use of pheromones over pesticides against the said pest in okra.

  Pheromone traps against American Bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera, Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) were installed at 01 m from the ground in tomato (Lycopersicun esculentum, Solanaceae). First moth, in the field was appeared during 04th and 03rd weeks of transplantations each year (1995-96) respectively. Maximum mean number of moths (11 and 09) were captured during 11th and 08th weeks of transplantations, when the average temperatures were 28.38 and 26.30°C, each year respectively. A total mean number of 63 and 45 moths were captured during the two years of study respectively. The adult pest remained in the field till the crop was uprooted. The study strongly recommends the use of pheromones than pesticides against the said pest in tomato.

  A synthetic insecticide (Monocrotophos 40WSL) and three botanical infusions (Datura alba Seed Extract Infusion, SEI; Calotropis procera Latex Infusion, LI and Citrullus colocynthus Fruit Extract Infusion, FEI) were tried against onion thrips on broadcasted onion variety “Chlitan 89” in Quetta, Pakistan. All tested insecticides caused mortality of onion thrips at various degrees of significance over untreated control. C. procera LI, proved it self the best among the tested botanical insecticides and provided 42.67 % control after Monocrotophos that caused 76.24 % mortality of onion thrips. D. alba SEI and C. colocynthus FEI showed minimal control (17.23 and 6.77 % respectively) of the said pest than other tested insecticides but the results encourage the idea of pollution free methods of pest control. The C. procera LI can be used as good as any other botanical insecticide in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of onion thrips.

  To determine the relation between fertilizer and thrips infestation in onion (Allium cepa), six different levels of nitrogen (N) with constant phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) were tried in, Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan. The soil of the region is sandy loam, alkaline, moderate in calcium and very poor in NPK. The soil and climate are well suited for onion cultivation. Low and optimum doses of nitrogen have no effect on thrips population. Maximum mean total thrips infestation (267.9 and 269.3 per plant) was observed at high doses of nitrogen application (200 and 250 Kg ha-1). Crop yield has shown direct relations with increased fertilizer doses up to 200 Kg ha-1 nitrogen. Beyond that dose a rapid decline in yield was observed. Maximum yield (15220 Kg ha-1) and cost benefit ratio (1: 1.44) with minimum mean total thrips infestation (157.2) was observed by applying 150-100-100 Kg ha-1 NPK, respectively.

  Trichogrammatoidea bactrae, Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae (about 72,000 adults) were released in long staple, Upland 1517-88 cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Total parasitization in Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella, Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae, PBW) eggs in two replications was 19.56 and 26.84% respectively.
