  To analyze the vegetation a phytosociological study of fenced and unfenced reserves of National Park Lalsuhanra was conducted. Three sites were selected at I) fenced unirrigated ii) fenced irrigated iii) unfenced desert area. Three quadrate measuring 100 x 100 m2 were laid on each site to record the frequency, density and coverage of plant species. Plant communities were determined on the basis of Importance Value Index (IVI) and each was named after the leading species. A total of 19 plant species in the fenced un-irrigated, 17 in fenced irrigated and 13 in unfenced, un-irrigated desert area were recorded. Plant communication recognized were 1) Farsetia hamiltonii-Stipagrosts plumosa, in fenced unirrigated 2) Cymbopogon jwarancusa - Fagonia cretica in fenced irrigated and 3) Stipagrostis plumosa - Acacia jacquemontii in unfenced unirrigated desert area. The natural vegetation of all the three sites in the reserve areas of Natural Park Lalsuhanra was mainly herbaceous but in degrading form. Because of overgrazing the vegetation cover in unfenced desert ares was in decreasing state as copared to protected area.

  Proximate chemical composition, mineral constituents and antibacterial activity of Suaeda fruticosa (Kali Lani) was carried out. Determination of chemical constituents showed the presence of total carbohydrates 0.66 per cent (0.34% reducing and 0.32 % non-reducing), moisture contents 87.9 per cent and ash contents 6.0 per cent. Ether extract of the plant showed acid value 0.56, iodine value 0.02, refractive index 1.36 and pH value 8.0. The percentage of mineral constituents was, sodium 1.40, potassium 0.55, calcium 2.40, magnesium 2.04, carbonates 0.12, bicarbonates 0.85 and chlorides 1.40. Results of antibacterial activity of plant extracts in water, acetone, ethanol and ether against Klebsiella, Staphylococcus and E.Coli indicated that plant possesses potent antibacterial activity. E.Coli showed resistance to the standard antibiotic I. e. Streptomycin while its growth was inhibited by acetone and ether extracts.

  The bud sprouting percentage was maximum in all almond varieties except Genco, which showed poor results. The bud survival percentage was high 85.11 and 79.68 % in Tuono and Ferrastar, respectively. All the varieties showed no significant differences in the Scion height and number of branches produced. It can be concluded that Ferrastar and Tuono can be successfully budded on local peach rootstock at Peshawar valley.

  In Cholistan desert various landform units and associated plant communities were recognized. Out of sixteen, ten communities were identified in smaller Cholistan i.e. Calligonum polygonoides-Haloxylon salicornicum, Tamarix aphylla-Suaeda fruticosa, Haloxylon recurvum, Calligonum polygonoides-Lasiurus scindicus-Cyperus conglomeratus, Prosopis cineraria-Haloxylon salicornicum, Capparis decidua-Aerva persica-Haloxylon salicornicum - Haloxylon recurvum, Capparis decidua-Cymbopogon jwarancusa, Prosopis cineraria-Haloxylon recurvum-Haloxylon salicornicum, Prosopis cineraria-Capparis deciduas-Calligonum polygonoides and Haloxylon recurvum-Haloxylon salicornicum. While six plant communities were identified in greater Cholistan viz; Calligonum polygonoides-Haloxylon salicornicum-Dipterygium glaucum, Calligonum polygonoides-Aerva pseudotomentosa, Haloxlon salicornicum, Calligonum polygonoides-Aerva pseudotomentosa - Panicum turgidum, Calligonum polygonoides and Ochthochloa compressa. Threuophytes were dominant during the rainy season and initially colonized the base sand dunes. Perennial trees, shrubs, grasses and herbs were of the stable plant communities.
